snorkling at Calsbash or East Wind inn

Thinking of going to St Lucia April 2013, just wondering which place would you say has the best snorkling Calsbash or East Wind > we like small resorts and good food. These two seem to fit the bill but any other hotels you can suggest would be great as we have not been to St Lucia before.

many thanks

Unfortunately - neither is a good place for snorkeling. To the best of my memory, neither place has a reef at all. You would have to book snorkeling trips to other areas.

The best snorkeling on the island is in the Southwestern region, around Soufriere and the Pitons. You may want to look at Jalousie or Anse Chastenet. Both are small resorts with great food, beachfront and both have walk out snorkeling and on-site dive shops, if that interests you. Jalousie is right on the beach between the Pitons - amazing views! It is a 50 room resort on over 100 acres - lots and lots of privacy and quiet luxury resort, wonderful spa, etc. Anse Chastenet is across the bay and has some amazing views also from most of its rooms. Again, small resort - only 25 or so rooms, 2 beaches, rainforest, etc. Both would be great options if snorkeling and good food and luxury are important to you. Both Jalousie and AC offer all-inclusive packages like Calabash Cove does. In the Soufriere region, you are also right in the heart of most of the main sights and experiences of St. Lucia - the Pitons, waterfalls, hiking, volcano, botanical gardens, mud baths, mineral baths, plantation tours, etc. the area is worth considering!

There is some snorkeling in the north of the island also - but not anywhere near what there is in Soufriere area. Around Pigeon Island, there are a few reefs and also around Le Sport/Cap Maison area there are a few reefs - both small but still diverse. If you stay at either Calabash or East Winds, these would be the nearest snorkeling spots.
