Halcyon Hints

My hubby and I are booked for a butler room at Sandals Halcyon in late October 2012 for our 10 year anniversary. We plan on taking full advantage of the SCUBA opportunities, and look forward to a low key 2 week vacation. I would like to ask a few questions and get the opinions of the more seasoned St. Lucia/ Sandals folks out there, ...particularly about Halcyon and Sandals in St. Lucia in general.

What was your favorite thing? What is not-to-miss? What is over-rated? Any tours that are once-in-a-lifetime? Tell us your best experience. You get the idea... Help us have the best vacation ever. Thank you!

There is nothing like on-the-spot experience.

Help us have the best experience ever..

There is no better advice than that of a previous guest...

I would love to get your hili

For a cool and cheap tour, go to Pigeon Island. Just get the shuttle bus to the Grande, walk to the beach and turn right, out the gate and cross the car park. $5US to get in and it's great. You can walk right up to the fort and the top with great views and history.

Make sure to go see the Pitons. Often this is done as part of a land and sea tour, which shows you most of the island's popular sights in one day.

For tours, get a local company instead of using Sandals. They will be exactly the same tour but cheaper, and usually less crowded if you avoid cruise days.

I too would definitely second any trip that takes you to Soufriere to see the Pitons, experience the mud baths, snorkel at the foot of the Pitons, etc.

A full day tour is an excellent way to see all the main sights. Lots of operators offer this tour, for a pivate, more luxurious experience, check out Serenity TVL. They will customize the day for you.

Another excellent day trip is Tribute to the Lion's Castaway Beach day. It is with congoman down in Soufriere/Choisel at the base of Gros Piton - a full castaway experience on what seems to be an extremely private beach (no actual private beaches in St. Lucia, but some are very rarely visited by visitors or locals alike) You can fish, hike around the old ruins, bathe in the mineral springs, fish - and then eat your catch freshly prepared with a local organic lunch, horseback ride if you want, etc. Check out his site:

For an over the top spa experience - do the couples massage at Jalousie resort in Soufriere. Amazing massage in a wonderfully beautiful rainforest setting followed by 20-30 minutes in the private mineral baths - very relaxing and very romantic. The most beautiful spa on the island. You could then snorkel off the beach there.

Ziplining and the waterfall hike in Dennery is wonderful.

Definitely go over to the Grande and head to Pigeon Island next door for the morning - great hikes, and olf British ruins, lovely little beach and great restaurants, then you can spend the rest of the day at the Grande.

Definitely do dinner early on at Gordon's at the Grande - so you can have plenty of time to book it again!! Delicious! If they have one available, they will let you use a day room to shower and clean up for dinner.

all in all - enjoy your trip - there is so much to do and see around the island, along with totally relaxing at the resort.

Just make sure you visit each Sandals. It is included, so there's no reason not to! If possible, I'd watch sunset on the bluff at SLT. Beautiful! And if you stay a little longer, go to Cricketers for a bit! So much fun and they have the best bartenders!
