I am planning to post a trip report... so much to say so it will take me a few lunch breaks to compile all the info. Without spoiling the goods, I will say we got a taste of two different rooms in this category. Upon check-in (late afternoon on a Friday) we were given a penthouse beachfront room in the Pigeon Island building. Now, originally we had requested the Cap Estate Building, but we aren't really complainers and were happy to go with the flow. Well, unfortunately we weren't happy with this room and requested to be moved. This was only due to the fact that our beautiful beachfront view was totally obstructed by construction and barracades. We were nice about it and did not demand any kind of compensation. The following morning I checked back in with the concierge office to see if they were able to accommodate our room change request, which they were... and we were moved to the Massade Building on the other side of the resort. We loved this room. The view was beautiful and it was a quiet location.
As far as the concierge service, this was our first time going concierge anywhere and I think we were looking for the same things you were as far as going all out, feeling pampered, etc. The concierge check-in was calm and efficient. We tried to book dinner reservations through them for the "must go to" places and were told Kimonos was booked for the next 8 days. Something about them getting ready for renovations and they only had X amount of time slots available for Grande guests... anyway, we opted out and ended up eating all our meals at the Grande. Now I wished we'd tried The Pier at the Halcyon (you don't need reservations for this one) as people said it was excellent. None of the restaurants at the Grande require reservations so we didn't need to use the concierge service for this. We did use concierge to book all our tours. I don't think it would have required much more effort if we booked directly with the tours desk, so no huge difference there. The 24 hour room service option was worth it in my opinion. There were times we didn't feel like getting all dressed for dinner and just called up room service. Oh and here's a tip: just because it isn't on the room service menu doesn't necessarily mean you can't get it. One afternoon we were hungry for a snack and there aren't really any "snack-type" options for room service. We called up and asked if we could get some cheese and crackers and they were happy to meet our request. Anyway, we felt the room service was worth the concierge price. Oh and you get those Sandals robes... not that they're that great but sometimes you just want to lounge in a robe... hope that helps! Still working on a full report...
