 Ladera or Anse Chastanet??

Hello,

We are trying to plan for a last minute vacation and we are thinking about St. Lucia...

Which resort is an overall better experience? I am looking for input on the rooms and the respective views. Which resort is closer to Soufriere? Which resort is more lush and tropical? Which has better food? Activities on site?

Thanks

While I'm not first hand experience yet, since no one has responded yet, I thought I'd reply.

We are heading to Anse Chastanet in one week, and in my research, I learned that the one major difference is that Ladera is NOT on the beach - you have to take a shuttle there. Anse Chastanet is on the beach and you have access to all of the activities - snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, Scuba St. Lucia, the mountain biking, hikes, etc.

I think Ladera is the more 'posh' resort of the two, but I understand most people at Ladera come to Anse to spend their days at the beach and then head 'home' when the day is over.

If you want the more luxurious experience, the owner of Anse has built the super luxury Jade Mountain Suites above the Anse Chastanet -- another option for you and closer to the activities of Anse. Super luxury and super $$.

Hi St John Dude,

We stayed at both these resorts about three years ago, 3 days at each one. They are both great resorts and i woud actually recommend doing it that way. But if we had to pick one to go back to it would be Anse Chastenet.

Before we went, I had the impression too that Ladera was a more posh resort and that we would enjoy it more. The truth is neither resort is posh, but upscale caribbean casual.

We like Anse Chastenet better for many reasons. The beach is heaven. There is a section of the beach for the resort guests and another section for visitors, and when I say the beach is heaven, I mean the private section. Palm trees, palapas and wonderful service, it really is intoxicating. As noted above, you have to drive 10-15 from Ladera to get to the beach.

We found the food better at Anse Chastenet. They had a spectacular BBQ/ Beach dinner all lit with tiki torches that was very romantic and delicious.

I think both resorts are about the same distance from Soufriere, guessing 15 minutes. Again the Anse had the more lush and tropical view. Ladera's veiw is more austere. Beautiful, but distant. We had a great veiw of the Pitons from our octagonal room at Anse.

Anymore specific questions, just ask.

I am curious what Anse is like in the evenings - I think we won't be there for the beach BBQ (leave that day). Is the resort pretty quiet at night or do they have any other functions on other nights?

Suzibean,

They usually have some type of entertainment, small Caribbean band or singer in the bar area below the restaurant. I'm not sure if its every night or not though as we were only there three nights. You could easily E-mail them and find out. I would guess it is most nights.

The beach at Anse Chastanet is wonderful and the view from Ladera

is one of the most extraordinary panoramic sights that I have ever experienced The previous recommendation of splitting your week at both resorts, in my view is an excellent idea. (Ladera is also just minutes from an excellent beach at Jalousie.
