I am currently a student in London and so am obviously on a budget, but went on a family holiday to st lucia and fell in love with the place. Does anybody know about the Bay Guesthouse or any other hostels worth recommending? I am also very interested in volunteering out there. Does anybody have any info regarding this?

Thanks very much in advance

I am studying Psychology and am particularly interested in child development so anything in that area would be great. I'v heard about Dunnotar School but don't know if they take volunteers. Am also interested in any area regarding charity work and environmental volunteering. Sounds bery vague but would be very happy to hear about any way I could be a help!

Thank you for your reply

As it seems that you will be in the north, the `Bay Guest house sounds ok although I have not been inside it and this means that the Dunnotar School is in reach, it is at the back of Castries up on a hill and I wll make a phone call to see what they say about volunteers.

Thank you so much to you both.

JohnK- Phoning them would be very good of you - I have emailed but no reply as of yet. Very much appreciate your help.

It seems that most of the smaller charity organisations in st lucia (i usually aim to help at such) are really hard to get hold of so any help doing so is great.

hi John K. sorry if being a nuisance but having problems getting in contact with charities over in st lucia. did you manage to get any feedback from dunnottar?

anybody else have any ideas for charity volunteering out in st lucia?

johndoorman, thank you very much for the links but it seems that they want volunteers qualified in the areas of environment etc, which i am not. thank you for the info though

cheers everyone

i have stayed in bay guesthouse for a couple of days some 6 weeks ago- the young owners will and steph are simply GREAT! they know a lot about the island, and they know exactly how to get around, what to go see etc. the house is in a good spot, lovely garden, lovely hammocks ;o) and the most lovely dog in the world!!!

they have 4 rooms, 2 towards the sea and 2 towards the street (no cars!) the beach is right next to the guesthouse. so is the pigeon point national park, which has interesting history and nice beaches and the best best restaurant on the island (jambe de bois).

we had a room towards the street, it had a ventilator and a cooler box- no fridge. the room was small, with a little toilet and shower (cold water only). the only bad point about their guesthouse would be the matress(in our room, dont know abt others).

as i am a student too, we were also on a budget, and bay guesthouse is a good choice, the cheapest in the country i think...
