Security at Ti Kaye Village Resort |
|
Hey Folks, Just read a post in the St. Lucia forum under the heading "Cottage at Tikaye" and it has me very worried and concerned. It is a posting by someone whose family was robbed at gunpoint in their cottage at Ti kaye. They apparently just returned from their honeymoon there. Two other couples were also robbed. This is a most unsettling situation! I am hoping that they got the resort wrong, not that it diminishes what happened to these couples. Being robbed at gun point is a truly terrible thing to have happen on your honeymoon and my heart goes out to these couples. Has anyone heard anything about this, or if you were at the resort at this time could you please respond??? Or could the Management at Ti kaye please respond and settle some very concerned nerves.... Thank you |

Has anyone tried to contact Ti Kaye to verify these accusations? I would think that would be the proper thing to do rather than get everyone all upset and freaked out first.

I am hesitant to believe this accusation before verifying it with TI Kaye considering the poster has only one post and the information is second hand.

Hi Flystef, Thanks for replying...I have tried getting through to Ti kaye but the phone is just ringing and when it does pickup I am only getting a partial recording. Will keep trying to get through. I don't want to believe this posting as it is the first that I have read regarding something like this happening at Ti kaye. I keep telling myself that it is some sort of misspost. We leave for Ti kaye in just about a week and have been so looking forward to our trip..... so you can imagine my shock and surprise when I read this post. That is why I asked the person who posted to please please verify or recitify this. I am sure that all the other couples who are leaving shortly for Ti kaye and have read the post would like to know what's up as well. Thanks, Elleinn

Well I called Ti Kaye and was able to get through. Here is what I found out. They confirmed there was a burglery recently, although they would give no details concerning the recent burglery. Ti Kaye said they have done everything within their power to correct the incident, and were still working with the police to find the criminals. She also said that Ti Kaye has heightened their security. And they said to rest assured that this incident will not happen again.
So while this is really unfortunate for the persons it happened to, and was hard for me to believe since I knew Ti Kaye had men with dogs patrolling the outer edge of the property to make sure this type of incident wouldn't happen, it appears something did actually happen. But Ti Kaye said they were taking all measures to make sure something like this never happened again. It's sad that this happened, but I guess that's all you can really ask for concerning this most unfortunate incident.

Hi Flystef, I am glad you were able to get through to Ti Kaye. You must have that magic touch. I had tried but was not having any luck. I am very sorry to hear that this incident has actually happened, but I guess it is a sign of the times, and not even paradise is immune to such things happening. Will this stop us from going...hell no!! We will just be a little more vigilant and careful when we are there. Everything that I have read about Ti Kaye assures me that the Management and Staff will do everything in their power to keep their guests safe and sound. So once again, we and all future Ti kaye visitors thank you for your help and great posts. You rock!! Elleinn

Glad I could help Elleinn. (You sure you were not dialing the fax number? I did that two times and got a busy signal before I realized I was dialing the wrong number). I'm not sure why, but this incident really doesn't phase me in the least. I'm returning to Ti Kaye end of May and am greatly looking forward to it. As much as I would like to believe crime won't happen on my vacation, I've been in Paris and in Amsterdam and Rome enough and seen enough tourists pick pocketed or mugged or known cameras to be stolen out of hotel rooms to know there is danger in any place you go, even in the USA. I came home from work one day to find my apartment broken into and my TV and camera stollen. Crime is unfortunate and sad and unnerving for sure, but I don't know of any place to actually get away from it, if you do, let me know! :-)

Can anyone who has been at the resort previously (Flystef, Sulu, others....) comment on what type of security you have seen on your past visits. Flystef, I think you mentioned guard dogs around the perimeter. I am not someone who is easily scared- and its important to remember that we do not know the whole story. But I admit I am a little disconcerted. I don't want to be nervous when I go to sleep at night ....security was just not something that I had even thought of before. Flystef....can you completely lock the cottage doors at night? I know some might like to sleep with the doors open...but I would have preferred to have the a/c on anyway. If I know the room can be secured completely I am going to feel alot more at ease. Tourism crime (mugging, valuables stolen from the room) is one thing but this type of thing, if this is how it occurred, is a little more frightening.

Just returned from St. Lucia and my parents spent last week at Ti Kaye. There is definately increased security at the resort. My dad didn't close the door to the patio from outside... when he woke up the door was closed and locked. Security had locked it as a precaution. My mom and dad never felt unsafe... in fact, they plan to return sometime soon. Crime happens everywhere... heard a couple at the Regency where I stayed had some shirts stolen from their room... minor inconvienence... but it happened. Ti Kaye is very remote on the island and i doubt there will be a follow up incident. I wouldn't worry, just lock your doors while away. many didn't do this while I was visiting the resort. To me it is a no brainer... but don't let one isolated incident reflect on this beautiful hotel... I would stay there next time in St. Lucia.

FlyStaff--Thanks so much for calling! I appreciate you wanting to call the resort directly before jumping to conclusions. It is unfortunate, but like any island, I am sure there is crime--especially when it comes to tourists. I am going in October and I am STILL very much looking forward to it! I will just make a point to lock our doors, although we probably would close them anyway for some AC! It is important to mix security with having fun when you travel--you want to be smart, but don't want to panic and not enjoy yourself! It sounds like Ti Kaye is doing everything in its power to not only catch the criminals, but also heighten security. Thanks again to both of you for getting to the bottom of this! :-) Sarah
