Hi there

Im considering going to Jalousie Plantation for 10 nights in October. I've been quoted a price of £940 ($1841) to include breakfast and dinner each day. That breaks down to £47 ($92) per person per day. I've heard prices in the resort are high. Would I be saving money by paying up front?

Cheers

Martin

Hi Martin,

If that price is room plus two meals per day, it sounds great. How about alcohol?

Someone (Twinkles???) who recently visited can comment on the ala carte meal prices. I remember breakfast buffet w/eggs cooked to order was approximately $25 per person. Lunch from the "beach menu" had sandwiches, hamburgers, fish 'n chips at $8.50. Dinner in the nicest restaurant, Plantation Room, had a nightly $35 three course special, or regular menu that was approximately $50 per person for starter, entree, and dessert. All those prices (except breakfast) did not include a beverage or alcohol.

That should be plenty of food daily for most large appetites. We took some fruit from breakfast back to the room for an afternoon snack. Then we'd be ready for dinner.

Happy planning,

SeaBass

That price is just for the meals ONLY as an add on to the room price.

So $25 breakfast and $35 dinner per person per day would be around $1200 (£610) which is much cheaper than the price I've been offered. We could even throw in a daily "beach menu" and still save money.

Cheers SeaBass.

And if you want to save on paying for drinking water, simply ask for "regular ice water in a glass" for the free stuff. Otherwise they'll charge you a ridiculous price for bottled water...higher than Coca Cola I heard.

Another little tip...find your chamber maid as soon as possible. Offer her a friendly HELLO along with a generous "pre-tip". Cash up front (we offered $20 then more at departure) will almost always guarantee you great room cleaning...and extra FREE 1.5 litre plastic bottles of water!!! They usually only give one per room per stay. Then you pay a silly high price for more. We always arrived back to our room to find one chilling in the outdoor mini-fridge and one in the bathroom...every day...all week long. No extra charge. Just tell her you'd appreciate any extra water she could "sneak your way" during your stay. Also ask her to leave extra tea bags, coffee, or whatever you like. I've heard others even ask an employee of the resort to buy something for them in town at a better price than at the resort (sun lotion, soda, etc). Pay for it & offer a tip.

Bye,

SeaBass

Yes , the food at hotel is overpriced. What we did was rent a car and went sight seeing. We stayed at Jalousie 2 weeks. Their is a small white house (restaurant) called "Martha's"about 1/2 way between main road & the GATE at Jalousie. Do not be mislead this place was our Main Dinner. The Lady who runs it (I heard use to cook at Jalousie) is a very friendly lady & cooks wonderful. What we did; is call her at the desk (at Jalousie) & give her about 1/2 hr or so & go get it. She would put it in a" take out container" (Full) for about $10.00 pp.

Some times we would prepay & special order & tell her when we would pick it up next day after sightseeing. Remember, Martha is cooking you a meal & it takes time ----but it is worth it. We also had breakfast there too--just as good as supper.

Looking for the good in life
