Anse Chastenet - room recommendations, etc... |
|
Howdy everyone - I will be visiting Anse Chastenet next month for a week. I have reserved a "hillside deluxe" category room. Does anyone have any specific room recommendations? Also, how are drink prices? Is it better to go into town and buy drinks and an ice chest? Lastly, is it better to rent a car, or hire a driver as needed? They can be valuable as a tour guide, but I have no idea what they charge. Thanks as always. Brian |

Hi Brian - Not all hillside deluxe rooms have views of the Pitons (some just have ocean views), so I would definitely ask for one with a view of the mountains -- I would feel robbed if I couldn't look at those while there! From what I recall, hillside deluxe rooms in Buildings 12 and 15 do not have Piton views, and a few rooms in Building 8 will not either. (None of the beachside rooms have views of the Pitons.) Beers at Anse Chastanet run $3 - $3.50, house specialty drinks are $5.50. Other "American" mixed drinks and glasses of wine run about the same price to slightly more. A 1.5 liter of water is $3.50. You can do an all-inclusive there for $120/day, and you can also order a drinks package for your room. You can always stop along the way from the airport to the resort and pick up some drinks.
We were too much in heaven at the resort, so we never left. But the resort offers many organized tours. You might consider renting a car for a day or as needed -- I don't think you would need one for the duration of your stay. There are also water taxis that can take you to Castries and Soufriere. Hopefully you'll get some more feedback from other AC guests who can elaborate on the car rentals or driver hires, and specific rooms. Either way, enjoy your stay -- I don't think you'll be disappointed! Suzanne

Hi Brian, People seem to make a lot of fuss about the Piton views but to be honest the whole resort is amazing so where-ever you end up I'm sure you'll have a great time. I'd say as long as you're not in the beachside rooms then you're laughing. Admittedly the steps down to the beach from the hill keep you fit but the beachside rooms are a little too near the restaurant bins for my liking! Drinks as above, get a package if you can I suppose, we were AI so didn't really check the prices much. Can't really comment on cars, we were too lazy/busy enjoying our honeymoon = : ) At a slight tangent there are villas on the road to the resort which the owners occasionally let out to the resort. We were offered one of these with a free jeep for the week to switch for our room by one of the managers. We didn't make the switch but the option might be open to you if you're lucky. Whatever accommodation you end up with I know you'll have a superb time, enjoy! . . .

Hi Brian, I've stayed at a hillside delux in Anse Chastanet, room 15B. It doesn't have a view of the pitons but we didn't think it was much of an issue. The room was massive and overall the resort was just fantastic. I posted a picture of the view in my view of the resort if you want to see exactly what the view was like: tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g147345-d148… We were going to hire a car but didn't hire a car because the hotel offers an extensive list of excursions. I'm sure the people at Anse would be able to sort car hire for you if you go for that option, nothing is too much trouble for them. Enjoy your holiday. Jackie.

Thanks Jackie and PlaneGrain for your advice to just relax and enjoy. That's the idea, yes? Brian

Brian, I just returned from Anse Chastenet. We were in room 7C and it was incredible. We had views of the Pitons and the beach and the room was huge. I asked the front desk which room was most often requested and they said 7F. I don't think you can go wrong but with any of the rooms but I found the view of the Pitons incredible and I wouldn't give it up if I had a choice. We did not leave the resort so I would recommend just renting a car by the day at the resort because there is probably a great chance you will not use it a lot. We went deep sea fishing one day and were able to see much of the coastine from the boat. We even stopped at Rodney Bay for lunch. We did stop by Ladera for a drink on our way to the airport the last morning. You could also stop there on the way to the resort if you wanted to pay the taxi driver a little extra. It would be a wonderful welcome to St. Lucia! The view from there was marvelous also. The Pitons were so close, it almost felt like you could reach out and touch them. The rooms were all booked so we couldn't see one but I'm sure they are wonderful also. I don't like to change locations but it would be a little tempting to stay there for a couple of nights next time. But Anse Chastanet was even better than I expected and I will definitely return! Enjoy!! Lynne
