 Questions about Anse Chastanet

I am considering traveling to AC with two other friends. Is it all honeymooners or are there "non-couples" there also? Also, is the beach wonderful? Thanks - LC

We were there in 2002, but I doubt much has changed. Yes, it's mostly couples (which, I think, is to be expected in the Caribbean) but my wife recommended the place to a female co-worker who went there with her teenage daughter, and they reported having a great time. There's a lot to do off the beach: volcano, botanical center, hiking, mountain biking, etc. Not a lot of night life, though.

But the beach is the star, and yes, it's fantastic. It's a black sand beach, so you'll need water shoes or sandals for walking because the sand gets quite hot. There are thatched palapas with beach chairs, as well as hammocks. There's also bar service available, and if Daniel is still there it's fantastic service! (He'll greet you by name by your second or third day on the beach.) You can snorkel right off the beach in a marine preserve that has lots of fish and a variety of coral (unless hurricanes and global warming have damaged the coral over the past five years).

I highly recommend Anse Chastenet -- in fact, we're considering going back in '08 to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.

I agree with Getmearumpunch....There are a lot of couples at AC, but it's not necessarily a "couples oriented" resort. I think you and your girlfriends would be very happy there if you are looking for a mix of relaxing on the beach and resort activities as well as off-site excursions.

We were there in December and saw a variety of guests of all age ranges, including a mother, two teenaged daughters, and their grandmother, two women, and a group of three or four men taking a dive vacation there. It's such a laid back resort -- it's really for everyone and I don't think you'll feel out of place at all. There is so much to do there, and yet, relaxing under the cous cous huts is where it's at. The beach is awesome...clean, pristine....ahh....take me back....

Regarding your previously posted question about the rooms, the rooms would be large enough for three of you, but you should contact the resort and see if you can reserve a room with enough beds for all of you or see if you can get a cot or something. Alot of rooms have just one bed.

I hope you go -- it's a wonderful place!

We enjoyed the beach at Anse Chastnet, it's a beautiful black sand beach with great snorkeling. We loved the fact that it was not at all crowded when we were there.

Just back form Anse last week. Again, mostly couples, and not all honeymooners either. We are mid 40's and felt very much of average or slightly below average age! However very peaceful and relaxing.

If you're looking for a fab place with friends, I suggest Le Sport (went there last year). Many more "non couples" there and much more to do - lots of mums and daughters and girly mates as well as single guys (no kids under 16 though).Inclusive daily body treatments and much better evening entertainment, which at Anse Chastanet is virtually non existant.
