Just back from Anse Chastanet - any questions?... |
Just arrived back from AC yesterday having spent a wonderfully relaxing week there. Am happy to answer any questions anyone might have about the resort if you are planning a trip this year :) |
We are going to AC in April on our Honeymoon. How was the food at the resort? Are there any restaurants outside of the resort that you would recommend? We were thinking of doing the moutain biking trip. Do you try it? If you did, how was it? Are there any other activities or trips that you recommend? We are really excited. I hope you really enjoyed your trip.

Hi Mongoose We had a great time at AC. You have the choice of 2 restaurants within the hotel. One on the beach and the other above the Piton bar (about 100+ steps up from the beach). They both serve breakfast and dinner and lunch is available from the beach place only, which you can either have in the restaurant, the bar, or brought to you under your "cous cous hut" on the beach itself. Service is quite slow though. The food generaly is good but not exceptional. The beach restaurant has an Indian/Caribbean theme at night and on Tuesday evenings, you are invited to the managers's cocktail party followed by hot buffet. On Friday evenings, it is a Caribbean theme - again, self service hot buffet. We found the food was nicer in the upstairs restaurant at night - 4 course dinner. There are several restaurants in Soufrière worth trying - you will need to get a taxi there and back - about 1.5 miles away down a very bumpy road or if you go in daytime, get the water taxi from the hotel beach. The Hummingbird in Soufrière seems to have the best reputation but check out this forum for other places too. Yes, we did the mountain bike trip - great fun! You get the hotel launch round to the next bay, Anse Mamin and after a quick introductory lesson with Tyson and his lads, you are free to explore the old plantation along several different tracks of varying difficulty. The steepest is "Tinker's Trail" which is virtually impossible to complete. We finished it on foot and rang Tinker's Bell at the top. Worth doing for the view of the Pitons. There are several guided walks available from the hotel with Meno, the most fantastic and knowedgable guide I have ever come across. We did one through the plantation and another to the Saturday market in Soufrière with him. You can also book half day sailing or sunset sail (if the boat is mended!) and therre is whale watching and guided snorkelling trips too. Hope you have a brilliant time:)

Thank you for all of your input. We will definetly be doing the Mountain bike trail. Did you rent a car? I was just wondering if we should get one for a few day to explore more of the island. Also if econo-car would be fine to drive. I hear that some of the roads are not in great shape. Thanks again.
We met a couple who hired a car for a day and went up to explore the north of the island. You probably won't need more than that but best to enquire when you get to the hotel. The roads are very twisty with steep hills but since our previous visit 15 months ago, some have been resurfaced so much smoother (just in time for the cricket!).

Hello, We are going to the AC in april for our wedding we just wondered if you could answer the following questions. Do you know if irons and boards are in any rooms or if not whether you can request them from house keeping? 8 guests plus bride and groom are all staying and are on AI do nyou know if all restaurants cater for AI and whether it's at the top or bottom of resort? with regard to the snorkling do you know whether it is straight of the beach or if you have to get a boat out to it. many regards, Skibum
Hi Yes, ironing boards and irons are kept in the wardrobes in the rooms. You can eat anywhere you like on AI, including afternnon tea, if you can fit it in! Lunch, however, is only served in the beach restaurant as are the dinners on Tuesday and Friday evenings. Snorkelling is right on the beach in a zoned off area (no boats) - zillions of fish - it is free to hire snorkels, masks and flippers from the dive shop. If you want to do the guided snorkel trip, there is a cost and yes, it involves a short boat trip on the hotel launch into the next bay. Hope this helps :)
Did you happen to take the Helicopter transfer to or from the resort?
No, we had a private taxi which only took an hour (on newly resurfaced road). Have seen the hotel helipad though - perfect for Jade Mountain!
Can you tell me how much you'd say your meals cost you, on average? Thanks!
We were on HB so only had to buy lunch and drinks. (We were offered an upgrade to all inc at a cost of about 50$US pp per day.) We actually spent much less than that (approx 25 - 30$US) and didn't skimp on the cocktails or wine either!
