Beach - off the beaten path near San Juan

Staying near Condado beach but would like to find a beach a bit away from the crows. Is this possible near San Juan? We will be renting a car but do not want to be stuck behind the wheel traversing too far across the island.

Thanks in advance!

The Puerto Rico Crow has been extinct for some time, so no worries.

Ok, jokes aside.

Can you define "near"?

5 miles, 10?

San Juan is a large modern city.

You need to travel a bit for solitude.

Ahh crows..meant crowds. :) 5 minutes behind the wheel is too long but willing to tough it out if we have to. Only there for short time...5 days. One day we will be going to Fajardo. Anything around there?

I will say Playa de Piñones, Loiza

Its not a wide beach and there are rocky areas, but close to San Juan and off the beaten path.

Several options near Fajardo:

Luquillo Beach - Beautiful Blue Flag Beach. Crowds will depend on time of year and day of week. Local crowds on weekends during summer.

If you want serious isolated beach explore the Northeast Ecological Corridor. …wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeast_Ecological_Cor… It is about 6 miles of isolated beach between Luquillo and Fajardo. I would recommend a 4 wheel drive to access and use Google Maps to find the entrance. Not guarded and lots of funky currents so not safe for swimming, but beautiful, clean and quiet. If you visit please leave it that way.

I recommend Piñones also. It has a few nice hidden beaches there. There are surf spots around but you can find a nice beach right next kiosks where you can eat some great food.

In Fajardo there is Seven Seas Beach which has crystal clear waters and varying shades of blue. You didn't mention when you would be in PR, but in the summertime during the week, beaches are less crowded. Beaches in PR are crowded in the summer time especially in the summer months.
