Trip Report May 10-14th Day 2 Ricon Beach

Day 2 – Ricon Beach and Light House

We decided to take the trip (2hrs one way) across the island over to Ricon “the surfing capital of Puerto Rico”. The drive was nice and scenic with some local roads and express way. We notice the over abundance of cars for sale as well as the roadside vendors that offered everything from Banana’s to . hammock to puppies, yes puppies! There were also locals selling bottled water and pop at just about every intersection we came across.

Again the driving is horrible. Some drive the speed limit, some don’t go above 30mph, I don’t think they know they have turn signals and if they want to turn, stop, merge they just do it when they want without regards to other cars. Still we enjoyed the drive getting to see everything. First stop was the Ricon Light House. Beautiful grounds and views! Some locals selling their wares in the parking lot. Would be a nice spot for a picnic lunch if we would have prepared. Restrooms were locked and no other facilities. Picked up a nice sea glass bracelet for the wife and was was entertained by the vendor and his stories of the area. Headed into town and the beach. The town was small as well as were the beaches, there are several in the area We ate lunch at a little bar over looking the ocean, very friendly staff who also offered information on the area. After lunch we walked one of the beaches, the view was amazing and water was warm. Spent the day just wandering around and soon decided to head back. We being hockey fanatics had to stop off at the only ice rink in Caribbean. Purely and ice skating rink and not a hockey rink as it was on the smaller side with no marking for hockey. Ice looked like it was in dire need of resurfacing but never the less an ice rink on an island in the Caribbean! Headed back at a leisurely pace. Followed by dinner and a walk to some different casinos (La Concha, Mariott, Casino Del Mar) I collect casino chips so I was happy to get several ones for the collection. Tomorrow is the day I have been looking forward to, sailing charter with Erin Go Brah Charters…

Enjoyed reading your report. We are headed to Rinon in four weeks. I am a little nervous about the drive, but hopefully all will be well. Thanks again!
