Best place to stay for one night pre-cruise to see some of...

My husband and I are in our late 30s and will be staying in San Juan for one night/part of a day before a cruise. Where would be the best area to stay so that we can be close to airport/port and also sample some of the island's most touristy spots??

Having stopped for a drink at El Convento I would suggest staying there if you stay in OSJ--The Sheraton right by the dock looked nice too and had a nice casino. (there is a street of outlet stores including Coach and not only are they on sale on top of the outlet price but also no tax!) You could also take a ferry from old San Juan to Catano to see the Bacardi tour--this is fun but only if you have time--I would do the rainforest or a snorkel trip first to Fajardo. Renting a car is fine but if you have no idea where you are going it would be better to take an organized tour so you could enjoy the view and not worry about getting lost-

Thank you TravellingHobby, how long do you think the Bacardi tour would take? I know my husband would enjoy it!

The tour itself normally takes 45mins to 1hr, but w/ transport( ferry& taxis), free drinks, and gift shop, I'd figure 3hrs, total.

And it's well worth it!!

Thanks very much, that's very helpful. I would say that's one we will definitely do!!! I'm sorry, I also meant to ask you about the street of outlet stores - do you know what it's called??
