first time going to PR - pointers please

Hi to all who've been to puerto rico,

I am a college student from NYC. My 2 friends and I bought cheap JetBlue tix to San Juan for 3/13/2006 (3am arrival) and 3/17/2006 (3am departure). It's been hectic and time-consuming finding budget lodgings. I've looked at so many hotels, inns and parador info that I can become a hotel specialist. Right now, we have reservations for 2 nights at the Comfort Inn in San Juan. Reservations can be cancelled so we're not stuck to the comfort inn. Any reviews?

We want to see Old San Juan, the rainforest, the caves and Culebra. All within 4 days...crazy right?! We're New Yorkers. we can pull it off.

So questions: Should we just stay at Club Seabourne in Culebra? They provide food, transportation from airport, kayak rental for $150 a night. OR should we stay near the luis munoz airport (san juan/old san juan area)? Any lodgings recommendations near El Yunque Rainforest?

Thanks in advance to who ever responds,

Anna Zheng

i think you will ruin you vacation trying to do all of that in 4 days. you are college kids so i think you should deciede if you want a beach trip or a sightseeing one. plus did you factor transportation(cost) into your plans, because you are definetly going to need a car. the things you want to do are far from each other and the coct of useing taxis or tours is not cheap. if you want a beach trip i suggest you fly jet blue into AGUADILLA AIRPORT. rent a car and head to RINCON or ISABELA. the best beaches on the island our there as is the surfing.if sight seing is more your thing i would skip staying in SAN JUAN and rent a car at the SAN JUAN AIRPORT and drive to FAJARDO try staying at THE FAJARDO INN. this would be a good starting point for rain forest day trip ,taking the ferry over to CULEBRA for the day a day trip .we spent four days in FAJARDO LAST SEPT it was one of the best vacations ever had in PUERTO RICO. if youd like i would be happy to e-mail the details of that trip so you can better plan your vacation. e-mail me at www.msdoa@sbcglobal.net

good luck,

I would suggest that you stay closer to the Airport as it would put in in good "striking" distance of the Rain forest, Old San Juan and the East coast. If you stay in Culebra it would be time consuming and difficult getting back and forth to San Juan. If you plan on staying in the Rain Forest area check out the Westin Rio Mar or other hotels in the Rio Grande area. The caves of Camuy are in the opposite direction of Culebra!! Best of luck in your 4 day visit, you could do all,...but you will be really moving!!

we also stayed at the Fajardo Inn recently and were impressed with the place, especially for the price. We did a day trip into El Yunque and then beached it for the rest of the day. Even if you do rent a car, traffic is so hectic you will run into delays just from the volume of traffic. Plan accordingly. Just to give you an idea of how long it took to drive, we left Arecibo Observatory at 2:15 pm and did not get to the Fajardo Inn until 6:10, and we didn't make any stops! The Caves were well worth the trip, the observatory you could pass on, although they're almost side by side. Enjoy!

Rent a car, stay in Fajardo or San Juan ( if you want night life) drive yourself to the caves ( skip the observatory) drive yourself to the rainforest and take a day trip by ferry to culebra... first ferry over, last ferry back..

That is the only way you are going to do all you plan.... crazy schedule, but that is how you could do it.

and YES ! the traffic will ruin your vacation !
