My friend and I are visiting Puerto Rico over Christmas. We'd like to pick-up a car in San Juan, drive around (Arecibo, Ponce & around, scenic roads, El Yunque) for nearly a week, and then drop-off the car in Fajardo before we ferry to Vieques.

Is this even possible? I'd received a recommendation to check out Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, and Popular Car Rental. I called the companies and was told that Enterprise's Fajardo office doesn't accept one-way rentals and that Hertz and Avis don't actually have offices in Fajardo. I couldn't find any information on Popular Car Rental.

If you have insight or advice, I'd really appreciate it. We're not quite sure what to do at this point...

There is a Hertz office in Ceiba (just on the edge of Fajardo)... I just drove by it on Thursday, so I know it is still open.

They do one way rentals. It is located on Road 3 bypass, km 0.0 in Ceiba

Check at www.Hertz.com for locations. It is not cheap....

You may be better off getting a cheap car rental for the trip, and then take a taxi (about $80) to the ferry.

I didn't realize that Ceiba was on the edge of Fajardo - it seemed farther away on the map. Do you happen to know if it's close enough that Hertz would drop us off at the ferry once we leave the rental car there?

It is close to the area where you get the ferry... call them, they may consider it.

I'm in the same boat.

I would like to rent a car in Fajardo and drop off in San Juan. Unfortunately, Hertz in Fajardo is closed on Saturdays.

Do you know far the Avis location is?

We just went to the new airport in Ceiba (which is not too far from the ferry dock (maybe 10 mins).

Besides the Hertz, there are 2 other car rental agencies in the area you can try- Thrifty and Avis.

I just did the article on the new airport, the car rental contact phone numbers are in it.
