Tipping at The Caves

Looking at the pricing on their website, I noticed that there is a 20% "service charge". Does anyone know if this is in lieu of general tipping? I understand you might still tip for great service, but I am curious about that 20% - it seems larger than most places. Thanks in advance for any help!

The 20% includes tax, which is about 1/2 that. Some people tip extra, some don't. I did get the feeling the staff were expecting something. Last trip, we went there after a week at the beach and were running low on cash. I left money on our tab when we checked out, hopefully it got to the right people.

It's the same at most restaurants, they add a service charge, but most will leave extra.

Thanks so much for the response. I just re-checked and you are right - I misread the summary of charges. The service charge is actually 10%, so that definitely leaves wiggle room for tipping. 20% is usually the upper end of a gratuity, so that seemed high to me. My bad.

Well, this place looks amazing. I think I'll be booking our trip today!

FYI, you can book the 2 BR Moonshadow for the same rate as the 1 BR suites if only for 2 people. Great location right on the water, have stayed there twice, amazing.

Where in MT are you from? We lived in Bozeman for 15 years.

Thanks for the tip about the room. I booked Startdust for the first part of our stay and had seen the deal for Moonshadow on here and I keep going back and forth on whether I should switch. It looks great - and roomy - but perhaps not as private? We are looking for a quiet, private, romantic getaway.

Thanks so much for the input - you are very nice for a "Bobcat" (we live in Missoula - go Griz!). : )

Yeah, Stardust is more private, except for Wed and Sat afternoons when The Sands bar is open to the public.
