Check out

www.negrilinfo.com

They have a page dedicated to Boutique hotels in Negril..

Check out all the links and narrow it down to a few.. There are some great small hotels on the beach and the cliffs.

Welcome!!

One good place to start is www.negrilinfo.com

It's agreat comprehensive website that has hotel links and a wonderful NEW Negril Map.

In addition to the 7 mile beach that I'm sure you've read about, is the west end of Negril aka the cliffs. So depending on your interests, you can stay on the beach or on the cliffs.

Keep in mind that some of the beach hotels also have buildings/property across the road, they usually call that "garden side".

Let us know a little more detail of what you are looking for and we will all chime in to help!

LOL Yamangurl!!! Too funny..

Like LOTL said it's spring break so if you are looking to get away from that madness then look at properties on the cliffs. As they are further from the beach action. Makes for a quiet, romantic vacation..

The small hotels you'll find on the cliffs. As has been mentioned there are even some hotels that are specifically NOT for Spring Breakers - unfortunately SamSara is NOT one of them but I highly recommend them any other time - inexpensive, great value - clean, SIMPLE...the Tower Houses are the most romantic/nicest rooms on the property in my opinion.

Other options for small properties:

- Xtabi $$$ (less expensive for rooms not on the sea)

- Tensing Pen $$$$

- LTU ($$)

- SeaStar ($$)

- SeaGrape Villas ($$$)

- Citronella ($$$)

- Catch a Falling Star ($$$$)

There are also several guest houses - the one that comes to mind for me is Miss Mae's, across from Pirates Cave.

Happy hunting!

I stayed last year at Seastar and loved it. it is very reasonably priced, and if you check out realnegril.com you can see what their Saturday night parties are like live..they have great entertainment.

The rooms are nice, with fan and ac, and a hammock on every balcony, as well as a small kichen area with minifridge included, and free cell phone use, all you have to do is buy the calling cards, and the pool is lovely with a swim up bar. It is within walking distances of Rick's and other places like LTU.

If you want to go to Negril in march, and stay in a nice and clean small hotel without the ultra 'party' atmosphere of the spring breakers, Seastar would be my recommendation.

I loved staying at Xtabi:

http://www.xtabi-negril.com/welcome.htm

check out the specials. You get breakfast (wonderful) airport transfer and all taxes included, depending on what special appeals to you.

I found this to be very economical. As far as staying there during spring break, my family (husband, daughter and daughter's friend) did this during March 2006 for a week. It was not a spring break mecca at all. If we wanted to experience more "action", we took a taxi to the beach. Otherwise, it was a great location for jumping off cliffs, snorkeling, caves (one cave has a marvelous stairs down to it with a small beach entrance to the water) a fun bar, fine restaurant, sunning areas, really good water access (not all cliff resort/hotels have good water access). We stayed on the "garden side" which means that you cross the narrow west end road to get to the water side of the property which houses the restaurant, bar and some ocean side cottages. Those cottages are very nice and do cost more. You might like that. I was perfectly happy with the garden side that costs less, has a beautiful garden, the pool, and some units still have a view of the water ( recommend unit #11).

Xtabi is not a big resort. It has a personal, small vibe to it that I enjoy. I like a place where I can get away from a crowd, yet have the option of going to a public bar in case I am in the mood for socializing with the always interesting people that show up all over Negril. Kingsly, their driver is a friendly guy who picks you up at the airport (look for the Xtabi sign that he holds) and takes you back to return to reality. Xtabi has very good bartenders, wait staff and household staff. I was very pleased with my experience there. BTW, I have stayed there twice: 2006 and 2007. PM me, if you want.

rastagirl777,

I was checking rates yesterday at Tensing Pen, Rockhouse, Seagrape, Catcha etc. out of curiosity. I couldn't believe how high TP & Rockhouse have inflated their prices in the last 2 years. Wow! They have put themselves not far behind the Caves. Not sure why they feel they can charge this much but people will pay it I suppose. Catcha & Seagrape are still much less than the other two.

Hope you don't mind a slight correction to your post.

Tensing Pen ($$$$)

- LTU ($$)

- SeaStar ($$)

- Banana Shout ($$)

- SeaGrape Villas ($$$)

- Citronella ($$$)

- Catcha Falling Star ($$$)

- Rockhouse ($$$$)

- Caves ($$$$$)

Hi BP, no, I don't mind you correcting it at all! My $$ system is really based on memory and personal experience. I know why TP and Rockhouse have bumped their rates so high...in TP's case they've done a huge amount of work to the property in the last two years including putting in a pool...in Rockhouse's case, they too have done a huge amount of work including 2 expansions...which is why I left them off the original list as I don't include them in the "small hotel" category anymore...also they are HUGELY popular, gotten so much press in the past few years...

I totally forgot about Banana Shout! Also, I'd like to stick in there Banana Gardens ($$), which is located across the street from Banana Shout. They all used to be one property (Banana Shout) but when the hotel sold they split it into two distinct hotel properties - Banana Shout on the sea and Banana Gardens across the street "bush side". Banana Gardens is a sweet property too - the landscaping is awesome!
