If you do not want to take a taxi or a limo or a chartered plane or a chartered helicopter, about your only 'affordable' option is the bus. The bus runs from downtown Kingston to downtown Ocho Rios several times per day. The number of times per day depends on the day of the week. Travel time is about 2 hr. one way. If you choose not to go by bus we had a superb registered JUTA driver, Winston Aarons who took us from Ocho Rios to Kingston for the day. Not only was his rate far better than the price we were quoted if we had hired a taxi through a hotel but he made our day amazing. He is experienced, reliable and was great company, He set out to make our experience the best it could be by listening to what we wanted to do and then making recommendations for additional options that we could also fit in if we wanted. He was informative during our trip so we saw and learned as much as possible from him and he gave us space but was also watchful too which we really appreciated. I can't say enough good things about him he was excellent!

You have plenty of time before your holiday to contact him on winston.taxi@yahoo.com for information and costs to see if it;s suitable. I hope that this helps and that you enjoy your trip to Kingston as much as we did.

There's public bus and then there is the Knutsford Bus. The Knutsford goes from New Kingston to the jerk center just outside Ochi. I have taken it and it's very comfortable, comparable to a Greyhound in the US...AC, etc.

A public bus would go from downtown or Halfwaytree, not sure which, and will be cheapest and most crowded/least comfy option.

Here is the Knutsford's schedule: http://www.knutsfordexpress.com/

If you are coming from the airport you will need to take a taxi to the Knutsford bus office. And another on to your hotel in Ochi.

As Ohliz states, the Knutsford Express leaves from New Kingston, NOT Downtown as stated in the link from post 1. The best option IMO.

The public bus leaves from Downtown and not Half Way Tree. I disagree with ohliz - it wont be crowded - it will be overcrowded! lol. That bus leaves from 'the far bus park' near Edward Seaga Mini Stadium, and not before a maximum number of passengers, bags and boxes have been squeezed in. Not recommended for tourists, although cheap at around J$400. Few taxis will want to carry passengers from The Parade in the centre of Downtown to the bus park. The streets are crowded and progress slow. Walking there on a Friday or Saturday is risky due to pickpockets frequently operating in the crowds.
