 Gran Bahia Principe

Does anybody have any inside info on this hotel which is due to open later in the year?

Have checked the GB website but does not tell you much and I presume the video is of another hotel as this one has not opened yet.

Am tempted to go for it, but have never been to a GB hotel before so not sure what to expect.

just returned from GB-DON NOT GO AN ABSOLUTE DISASTER!!! We had to leave 4 days into our holiday - RATS-COCKROACHES-NO HOT WATER-NO TOWELS-NO GLASSES-NO ICE. I know you think I a exagerating but i'm not. We had to pay 8550.00 US to get out and stay at Beaches in Niggrell. Our daughter had 180 (yes 180) bites on her legs overnight while sleeping in her room. The guests almost rioted at the meetings held with management to find out what was being done. We were not the only ones who left-many others did as well. Now the fight begins Transat Holdiays to recoup our losses.

Hi Susan,

I do not think you are exagerating at all. Very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. Could you please tell us the date you were at the Gran Bahia? I am leaving for this resort on the 6th and would very much like to hear more about your experience. Much appreciated

We arrived at GB on Dec.21/06 and left Dec.25/06 for Beaches resort. We arrived home today, Dec.30/06. When we arrived on the 21st around 7 pm there was still mounds of garbage in the halls, it looked like they had just installed the carpet that day and the debris never did get cleaned up. There was also what looked like ice machines or some kind of large machines blocking the halls as well.

Our family had 3 rooms in total and some of us switched rooms 3X. The room my son was in had a steady stream of water leaking from the roof onto the toilet, so you had to hold a towel (if you were lucky enough to have one) over your head while using the toilet.

The hot water system was not opertaional most afternoons and evenings. They ran out of juice, liquor, beer, ice and even food.

The beach is under construction and only one small area is useable.

We saw rats in the resort as well as mice. We were bitten by bugs while sleeping and had to kill cockroaches in our room.

This is what we saw I shudder to think what was going on behind the scenes.

A meeting was called with the resident manager who promised to get answers and hold another meeting the following day to inform guests of the resorts plans to rectify the situation. I spoke to the manager myself the next day and he told me no further meeting would be held and complaints would be dealt with on an individual basis. At this point we decided to leave and make the best of our Xmas in Jamaica. Christmas day we spent trying to find another resort with no help from GB and hired a taxi with seating for 5 and the 6 of us and driver (7) drove for 3 hours to the other side of the island arriving around 8 Xmas night.

The staff were very nice but totally untrained.

Hope this helps you make a decision, but it wasn't a pleasant experience.

Hi susan,

Thanks again, do you know how to start your own topic?

If so it would be easier if you started your own thread and copied your review there.

So what are you in the process of doing now in regards to complaints?

This is another report back today:

"Just got back from Jamaica (Sandal's Dunn's River) and heard horror stories about families arriving for the opening of GBP Jamaica - hotel isn't close to completion yet!! (just drove by it yesterday on the way to Montego). Apparently, families arrived and had to sleep in the lobby for 2 days before they could find other lodging. Confirm your reservations before you go!!"

Great post, Susan with lots of details. Hopefully, you were able to salvage some of your vacation and if I were you, I would fight for a free week like it seems that was being given by GBP. The conditions you speak of are in line with what was said prior, you have just provided a little more detail that I really appreciate. Have a great New Year!

My husband and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree in Montego Bay and it was very nice. Very family oriented! Also we've stayed the three Riu's, two in Negril and the one in Ocho Rios! Can honestly say that we love Negril, but it is a long drive, but well worth it!
