It will take nothing short of a miracle for this resort to be fully operational by then, I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't completely open by NEXT December... There are lots of other options.

We had booked w/ cheapcaribbean for the Bahia. We called them with our concerns and they allowed us to switch hotels...they even waived the $50pp change fee. Cheapcaribbean.com has been nothing but accomodating. If you are uncomfortable, like we were, just call and they'll switch your hotel. You do have to pay the difference in hotel prices though.

After passing the Bahia on Tuesday I am convinced they are on schedule to open a section of the resort mid December. To guests of this resort have a great time and to the management of Bahia good luck and congratulations welcome to the the most beautiful island in the world with the friendliest of people.

Jamman, why are you convinced? I booked to go there in Jan and am very concerned now. I was told by the agent that if they are ready they will switch us to another hotel - does anybody know if that is true? And what hotel would they switch us to/should I ask for? I am starting to lose sleep over this decision.

If you are concerned, do as we did and switch hotels. I was losing sleep too, and now am not.

If you have a good agent, they will understand and just move you now. There will most likely be an increase in price, so be prepared.

We moved over to the RIU Ocho Rios, if that helps...

I pass this resort every 7-10 or so and I am impressed their progress. I have opened a hotel from construction in JA and we opened on time. Remember though, 600 rooms will be open not the entire resort. expect the rest of the resort to be refurbished inside as the out side appears to be completed. However, nothing is worth losing sleep over so I would check your travel agent to see other options. I very much doubt that you would get the same price at other resorts though.

I am disheartened by the negativity of everyone here. I guess I must say thanks for your continued interest in the resort's progress at least.

To iron out some details, they're scheduled to open 588 rooms on December 15th, the first section of the resort. The grand gala opening is set for new years. After speaking with friends and agents who have been into and toured the resort itself, I believe many concerns about delays and lack of safety are slightly exaggerated. Obviously not all of the resort will be operational (for instance only 3 of the 5 a la carte restaurants are slated to be open for December), but the majority of services and amenities will be ready to go.

I'm booked for Dec. 30th, so I'll find out first-hand when I get there. If anybody is heading there earlier, please post your opinions.

It has been totally different from what you've stated.

I have always said the hotel maybe open on time but all facilities will not be available.

Your post states the same as what I've said all along?

We have just booked with this resort, purely from good reports from sister hotels. My buddy went to one in Punta Cana and said it was fantastic. This person really does have very high standards so I think it's a safe bet. The fact that it is so new could be an issue. I hope not though.
