 beaches sandy bay

We are leaving on June 10 for a week at Beaches Sandy Bay. We will have our 2 boys, ages 16 and 18 with us. Will they be ok to do things on their own? We will have exchange privileges with Beaches Negril Resort. They will want to go back and forth, is it safe for them to do this without us? Also, I have read some reviews, good/bad, about the hotel. How about any recent reviews, since the renovations last year?

I am so pleased to hear of someone else with older teens going to BSB - we are going in July with 18-y.o. daughter and 16-y.o. son. I will be very interested in hearing what you think. We stayed at Sandals Montego Bay in November, and so enjoyed all the amenities of this AI, that we wanted to stay with the same chain with our kids. We booked a 2-br suite. What have you booked? I hope you'll post a trip review from the perspective of older teens. Our thoughts were the same as yours regarding exchange privileges. Didn't realize they did renovations last year. Good to know. Keep in touch!

winnekini- - - thanks for responding. we have not been planning our trip long. it was a last minute decision. our oldest will be going off to college in august and the youngest will be going one year earlier than normal (next year), so we thought we had better get in a really good (maybe) last vacation together. we checked with all the beaches resorts and they were all booked, except for the turks. they were beautiful, but way too expensive for us right now with college expense around the corner. we read that there was new management and renovations since last summer. we have never been, so we aren't sure exactly what to expect. the boys are water nuts anyway, so their biggest expectation is the scuba diving. hopefully they won't be disappointed. it looks beautiful, but i am concerned with some bad reviews. any info would be appreciated. we will give a teen-experienced review when we come back. since we waited so late in booking, we got a premium room, not sure what that will be like. we don't intend on spending a lot of time in the room, though.

Hi again! I know what you mean about "last vacations". We are thinking the same thing - you just don't know that the family vacations of the past will continue. My 16-y.o. will be going to boarding high school this fall, so I too will have empty nest (daughter is already a freshman in college). It's too bad we're not going at the same time - the kids could have hung out together. I chatted with a couple of people on other boards and they were all fairly pleased with their vacations. As long as you go knowing that it's not a 5-star resort, and that everything moves more slowly on Jamaican time, you should be fine. We found at MoBay that as long as we were pleasant, friendly, and polite, we received the same in return. It was an awesome trip! You might want to check out these two boards for more info and/or answers to your questions:

We're planning to head to Beaches Negril also - at least for the water park. I have heard some difficulty about getting dinner reservations at BN where we're staying at BSB. Not really a big worry - we can always find something to eat somewhere! LOL And I don't really know if that is accurate. I read someones comments about walking between the two resorts - getting a drink at one, walking to the other, getting a drink and walking back, etc. Sounds pretty good!

Thanks for the info. I have come across several reviews that are from January until now. Very encouraging. I am really looking forward to this trip. I also read that we have exchange privileges with a Sandals resort down the beach from Sandy Bay. Does anyone know which Sandals resort this is? I will still be checking the reviews until we leave for our trip. Also have seen some beautiful pictures. Thanks

Yes, it's Sandals Negril and I believe it is right next door to Sandy Bay. You as adults can go there; I don't think the kids can go there, where it is a couple's resort only. Hope this helps.
