Starfish or Royal Decameron Montego Bay

this is our first time to jamaica went to cancun last year and had a great time. looking to have another great vacation 4/3-4/7. we really enjoy the beach and spend alot of time there. from looks of pic RDMB don't have much beach and starfish does. thoughts and ideas from every point about both hotels would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank You in advance!!

nikkeemarie, The beach at Starfish is better than RDMB.

If beach is a top priority then RDMB will not fit your needs.

If you are going with your children (if you have some) then Starfish.

RDMB has superior rooms to Starfish imho.

Every room is ocean front...and true ocean front not just a glimpse of it.

RDMB has more night life options as it's in Montego Bay so if you are bored at the resort you can go to Pier 1 or Margarittaville.

So if your room is important and night life options....RDMB.

If it's beach....Starfish.

REally if it's all about the beach please consider something in Negril. Enjoy.

Hi nikkeemarie, Hmmm I was just searching as I don't stay in MoBay very often to be honest. I just was there just recently Jan. 21-28 and fell in love with it all over again though...going back Mar. 1-8. LOL.

I cannot stress to you enough....for BEACH you need to go to Negril. That is where the sugar white sand for miles is.

MoBay is not known for it's beaches. I thought maybe Coyaba which is one of the top resorts in Mobay but you'll pay $.

Doctor's Cave Beach is the nicest beach in MoBAy that I know of. If you are stuck on MoBay research something close to Doctors Cave Beach.

Enjoy.

we were considering negril but didn't decide/purchase fast enough the resort we were looking at is now all booked . is there nightlife there? is it a long drive to/from the airport?

we are having a hard time since we went to cancun last year and had a wounderful experience great ocean view room, great beach, and only steps away from the nightlife. but we want to experiance something new.

we want beach and nightlife with a deccent room with a view for a resonable cost. we were lucky last year we went at an off peak time and got a great rate. this year we aren't able to do so since our oldest daughter is in kindergarden.

thank you

Hi nikkeemarie,

I think it's worth mentioning to you that you will not find ANYTHING in Jamaica that is really very similar to the "cancun thing". Cancun is extremely built up and americanized so to speak when compared to Jamaica.

I have seen unknowing folks return from Jamaica unhappy because they went hoping to find the same level of "sanitized nightlife" that you find in Cancun.

If you understand that nightlife anywhere in Jamaica is going to be much different and most often much lower-key, you can adjust your expectations and truly enjoy Jamaica for what it has to offer.

As far as beaches go, the finest beach on the entire North shore of Jamaica is at Starfish Trelawny. It is one of the only beaches in Jamaica you will find that compares somewhat to Cancun or Negril.

Between the two resorts you mention, I would go with Starfish hands down.

You might enjoy the RIU's in Negril... have you enquired about pricing on them?

Blessings and respect to you, ENJOY Jamaica! There is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more to her beauty than the beaches and nightlife!

Steve

Hi Nikkeemarie, I'm sure someone else with more knowledge will be along shortly like Westmoreland, Ohliz, JamaicaSteve, JohnnyB, etc with more suggestions for you.

Negril has hundreds of accommodation options. Check out this user friendly link: click on maps on the side, then beach, then click on different places.

http://www.negrilonestop.com/

For the rest of your description....RDMB is real close to meeting your criteria.

Make sure you get a Balcony room not Ocean VIEW. This resort is EXCELLENT value for the $.

It's not like there is no beach...it's just that the beach is man made. For most people who have not been to Negril they thought it was just fine.

Nightlife in Negril is abundant...Alfreds, the Jungle, etc.

Negril is 1.5 hours from MoBay a lovely but curvy highway along the shoreline. Enjoy.
