Want to visit the bars (especially Margaritaville) one night while staying at the Starfish. Is a cab a safe way to go? Will it be hard to get a cab back to the hotel late at night? Are there any other options from the Starfish...i.e. bar hopping tours, etc.

Yes a cab would be a safe way to go. Use only the "approved", i.e., red tagged, cabs from the front at the lobby. The cabbies at the resort entrance(and who sit in the small open air building) are typically not recommended by the resort. Having said that, I think taking a cab would be VERY expensive. Mo' Bay is appr. 35-40 minutes from Starfish. When we were there last March Starfish ran a shuttle to Margaritavile one night. It left about 10:00 pm and I'm not sure when they returned. Probably well into the wee morning hours. I don't know if they always run a weekly shuttle or not. I have a friend who works at Starfish. I'll try to get a hold of her and let you know.

Also, there is a bar across the street we've been to. Resort staff also frequent it. I beleive JamaicaSteve said it's called The Country Club. Don't be deceived by the name. This place is very rustic. But, it's close by and an easy 3 or 4 minute walk from the resort.

We took a taxi in the daytime to MoBay and it was close to 40.00 for the trip for 4 of us. He was a driver recomended by Peter a bellman at Starfish. His cell phone is 429-5061. He was great and very dependable. The bar across the street is now called Ken's Bar. My 21 year old son went over there several nights until late and had a blast. The Starfish runs a free shuttle on Friday nights to Margaritaville and I read that if you call margaritaville direct and you eat dinner there they will pick up at Starfish (but I believe it makes stops at several resorts along the way).
