HELP GUYS! I am suppose to depart on Friday heading for Jamaica and we cant find the birth certificate!!! Dont own a passport and wondering other options to varify citizenship that anyone knows of. Have attempted to get certificate expedited but California has a back up since no longer accepting walk-ins? Any ideas or other identification that will allow us access in and out.
I don't know if it can be dilivered to you in days, but you can order a birth certificate online from the following site:

I just got my birth certificate from Los Angeles County through Vitalchek. If you go onto www.vitalchek.com
You can have your birth cert in 3-5 days. You have to print off some forms get them notarized and then fax them back. If you can do that today you should have your b/c by Thursday. I just did this because I am leaving tomorrow and I needed mine. I ordered it on the 7th and got it in the mail (FedEx) on the 11th. So you stillhave time if you can get them the paperwork today.
You will not be able to access into Jamaica or back into the States without your birth cert. I checked thoroughly!!!

That's the same site so I hope you do order it today.
Many counties have expedited Passport services for a premium fee. I know in Jersey we can have it turned around in 48 hours.

The Federal site says 2 weeks for expedited service. So, maybe not 48 hours as it used to be.

THANKS GUYS! We have downloaded the forms and had them notorized, and faxed to clerk-recorder... hoping they will get here by Wednesday no later than Thursday we fly out that night at 7:00!
BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE! WE GOT IT FED-EX THIS MORNING. 41.50 IN THE HOLE BUT WE GOT IT, Now if the weather will hold up in our favor this should be a wonderful weekend.

So glad it worked out for you. $41.50 is nothing compared to the money you would have lost if you didn't get on the plane. Are you going to get a passport now? We seem to be able to keep up with those much better than b. certificates after all how many pieces of white paper does one have?
