Hi there!
Not sure I can really help you as I have not been to either the FDR or Pebbles yet, however we are booked at the Pebbles for two weeks in March.
As I border on "obsesive compulsive" LOL!!! I can tell you that I have spent a lot of time researching both of these resorts (and others) and I am now feeling quite confident that we made the best choice... I cant say whether or not either of these resorts would be a good "fit" for you guys, however I can share with you a few things I did find out...
FDR is the older of the two resorts, consisting of 76 suites (Nothing fancy, however VERY spacious) According to "Sunquest" (Canadian travel provider) FDR would be considered a 4 1/2* resort while the Pebbles would be a 3 1/2* resort.
FDR is geared to younger children (kids under 10) while Frank Rance (Owner) tries to gear the Pebbles resort for children over 10.
FDR is supposed to be "slightly" more resort oriented while Pebbles is suppposed to offer more of a "back to nature", "summer camp" type vacation...
FDR has a really, really horrible beach (Great for very small children) more like a "small cove", and a small pool (no swim up bar) but does have a half decent water slide...
Pebbles beach is not much better, however it is supposed to be longer just very, very narrow practically disappears at "high tide"... The pool at Pebbles is quite large (with a swim-up bar) however the slide is just like something you would see at a park somewhere...
Bottom line... Beach people would not be happy at either place...
Food I think is sugestive, some people have come back and raved about the food and others have claimed the food to be edible at best.... My best friend has stayed at Pebbles twice and loved the more "traditional" Jamaican food, however said the more North American food they offered was crap!
Both resorts are all about the Nannys and hopefully the activities... I want my kids to be immersed in activites, both educational and fun, (Not looking for Rock-climbing and Circus Training kinda fun though).
I also like the idea of the "personal attention" you get from having your own nanny... My children are a little older, however I do plan on utilizing this service as hopefully it can give us a chance to really get to know somebody from Jamaica...
Here a few links that you might find interesting... To help aid in your decision.
