JohnnyBgood you seem to be a jamaica conniseur. I will be at Sunset beach in February and have some concerns about the beach. This is my third trip to "Heaven", 2003 staying in Renaissance Ochos Rios (now owned by Sunset). The water there was full of seaweed, YUCK! I couldn't even enjoy floating in the water. Should I expect the same thing at SSB?

Thanks for your help

Hello joujoukim,

I love the island and was born and raised there. There are many of us on this forum who are passionate about Jamaica.

We try to help others to visit Jamaica and to also get out of the confines of the hotel and into the real Jamaica. It will be a totally exciting experience for everyone who does it. However, visitors have to learn to kick back and do things Jamaican style. If a journey is suposed to take one hour and it actually takes two hours, then NO PROBLEM, MON! Dont make an issue of it. Enjoy the scienery. Stop and have a Red Strip Beer. Eat a delicious patty.

The issue about sea-weed is a tricky one. The arrival of these algies has a lot to do with the time of year and changing currents. I think that you should try and see all the other positive things that Jamaica has to offer.

p.s. The country of Ireland in Europe has the most amount of sea weed and sea shells. But they turned it into a thriving business. A steaming hot bath with authentic algies is the best thing for your skin tone. Have the hotels gardnerman collect a large bagful and take it to your room and place them in your bathtub full of hot water. I guarantee that your skin will tingle afterwards. Enjoy!
