Tropical Storm Emily - What Gives?

Tropical Storem Emily looks like its going to track right over Jamaica on Sat or Sun. I'm supposed to arrive on July 13 and leave on July 17 (Sun). Should I be concerned? Should I cancel? Darn the bad luck.

Hi Paxman,

I've been keeping a close eye on the weather too because our vacation is planned for July 20 - 27th. It now sounds like there is another system right behind Emily. The safety and welfare of the people of Jamaica is the most important thing, but this waiting game for those of us who will be travelling is a bummer.

According to the National Weather service site, the latest forecast shows Emily tracking south of Jamaica for now. The weather will probably be rainy but safe. See nhc.noaa.gov/ftp/graphics/AT05/AL0505W5.GIF

Best of luck with your vacation.

Hey Mary and Pat where are you staying? My family and I are also leaving on the 20th. We are staying at RIU, Negril. Just crossing our fingers that Emily will slip by without much damage for the Jamaicans.

We are staying in Montego Bay this time as we hope to catch a couple of nights of Sumfest. I would really like to see Toots and the Maytals on Saturday night for sure!

However, we stayed at the Riu Negril in January. It's a beautiful property. I'm sure you and your family will have a wonderful time. The reservations for the sit-down restaurants are sort of a pain, so if you're interested in that, check into it early. They do a great steel drum show.

We did spend one day at Seven Mile beach and a stop at Margaritaville, which was fun too. Be sure to stop by the "Office of Nature" located on Bloody Bay between your hotel and the Riu Tropical. They are a great group of local people. Say "hello" to Mr. Everything for us.

Have fun! I hope Emily stays south.

Mary
