my sister and i hyave just returned from a two week vacation at the Caribbean Cottages. As agreed, on arrival we were met by the husband of the owner . Tom had a very hostile approach from the start making our journey from the airport to the accommodation very unconfortable. It was hard to believe this man was responsible for providing tours around the island to tourists. In fact, 'a half day island tour', according to their website formed part of the package deal. This was never offered to us during our stay, and needless to say, we never once enquired about it as the thought of being in Tom's company was a turn-off.
The owner, VITTORIA, was a nurotic woman. A WOMAN ON THE EDGE.
When we arrived at the cottage, we were surprised to find there was no kettle, fans or kitchen towels. Although, i had spoken to Vittoria via the telephone, and she had informed me of the contents of the cottage, we were surprised to find very little was provided. It took two requests for a kettle and towel before she provided them.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Vittoria had no regard for health and safety .The cottage was very hot (no fans), poorly lit and not an extinguisher in sight. The way in which it was designed meant there was very little natural daylight (at any given time). SHE WAS QUICK TO POINT OUT 'ELECTRICITY WAS EXPENSIVE'...
From the day she introduced us to the cottage there was a very strong smell of GAS and the cottage door which had two locks only had one key. she could not account for the key for the main lock. That night we feared for our lives, what with the gas leak and a very unsavoury character in the cabin next door, knowing the main door was not properly locked.
The following morning we brought the gas leak to Vittoria's attention but she did nothing to remedy the situation. She simply kept a low profile for the duration, closely guarded by her dogs which we feared!
Their website stated a change of bedding and clean towels every three days. It was on the eight day we received a change of bedding and bath towels after bringing it to the maid's attention, and even then, we had to change the beds ourselves due to some confussion with the keys.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE MAID DID HER BEST TO HELP WHERE POSSIBLE!
VITTORIA WAS A LOUSEY HOST! !
On the morning of our last day the maid was sent to check our cottage as Vittoria suspected we had vacated in the early hours of the morning without paying for our 14nights stay.
When i approched her in relation to the matter she claimed to have no recollection of me making fully payment by travellers cheques as she had agreed on the day after our arrival.
She later apologised claiming it was standard procedure to demand payment on the final day of stay.
i would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.
