Grenada Forum: La Luna for Honeymoon????

 La Luna for Honeymoon????

Hello!

I have been doing serious research for honeymoons, so needless to say any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have been looking all over the Caribbean for the perfect location (though money is not made to squander, for this occasion it's ok, I just want the best for her.)

I saw laluna and thought it looked wonderful. Quaint, charming, and hopefully an exquisite beach and ocean. She has only been to the ocean twice in her life and has cried both times-she adores nature so I want the water to be pristine!

We would like: major downtime, scuba, snorkeling, good pool, and maybe deep sea fishing. Thoughts on these at laluna?

The food I'm sure is great, we are not crazy picky but appreciate a good meal.

Here are my concerns: honeymoon at least 7 days, mosquitos, the OPEN BATHROOM! (My future wife, she can be very 'rustic' as she spent months in third world countries, but does it spoil the resort feeling of this place-will it get old after 7 days? We do love a bathtub!

Again, thank you to anyone who answers. If you are a Caribbean/West Indies expert I was looking at also the following locations: Sandy Lane, Cap Juluca, Jumby Bay, and Grace Bay. (Please in your suggestions, we would like Caribbean vibe, not Vegas Belagio vibe :)

thanks guys!

p.s. weather in March there?

I booked my honeymoon for Laluna in June of 2007 and can't wait. So far the staff has been very accomodating and from the reviews I've read it sounds great.

smoosh, you're asking just the right questions about LaLuna. I stayed there in July 2006 and it was perfect for me. I'll try to answer your questions to see if it's perfect for you and your new wife.

I personally liked the indoor/outdoor living spaces of the cottages at LaLuna, including the open air bathroom. I generally prefer having the option of not using a/c and throwing open the windows when I'm in the Caribbean, anyway (this not really possible at LuLuna but the A/C is very efficient). With the exception of the towels and the bathrobes, the bathrooms aren't luxurious at all and in fact quite rustic. Didn't see many mosquitos in the bathroom but there were definitely bugs in general in there as well as lizards on occasion.

I thought the food there was excellent and priced in line with resort food, but far better than your typical resort food. We opted not to take the meal plan as we rented a car and enjoyed driving around to sample all of the other wonderful restaurants, but we had breakfast there every day and two dinners. Mealtime service was good and the dining room is quite romantic by candlelight in the evenings.

The pool there is more of an afterthought and not really suitable for swimming. It's attractive to look at when lounging around it oro by the bar, but it's not very practical unless you just want to use it to cool off.

The ocean there is beautiful, as is the beach. Beach is small but relatively private since it is only shared by villas. Pretty decent snorkeling right offshore. The hotel could no doubt arrange fishing and scuba charters for you but there are no companies on site.

Grenada definitely has a wonderful West Indian vibe and LaLuna definitely feels like a romantic island hideaway. I've not stayed at the other places you're considering, but I've seen and/or visited some of them. Sandy Lane is very luxurious but not very authentic in terms of an island experience. A little sanitized. I also didn't think that the West Indian feel was as strong on Barbados as other islands. Jumby Bay is also more upscale than Laluna, and as a private resort would offer you lots of, well, privacy. You'd also have the entire island of Antigua to explore right at your fingertips. I've never been to Provo or Anguilla, but I'd suggest that Cap Juluca is a #1 honeymoon destination for a good reason. I'd also suggest staying away from Provo for a special honeymoon occasion because of the ongoing construction issues on the island and lack of West Indian vibe.

Hope this helps--let me know if you have more specific questions I can answer.

We went to Laluna last year and although on a nice beach the food was the worst we had in Grenada and the swimming pool is right next to the restaurant, so you see people while you are trying to eat lunch not a nice experience. The sun loungers face right into the restaurant. I would recommend the Bel Air plantation for lovely food and a fabulous honeymoon destination or even one of the others you have suggested. Laluna is not like a caribbean hotel it is more asian style with Italian restaurant.

Hi Smoosh.

Spent one night at La Luna in the middle of June as a treat before flying home after two great weeks on Carriacou.

It is what I would call 'designer rustic' luxury. We just loved it. The fresh air bathrooms are a delight - and you get a great view over the ocean when taking a shower. If you love a soak - then look no further than your very own plunge pool sunk into your personal decking before collapsing onto your comfy day bed for a sip of rum punch.

The beach is amazing. Not a soul on it - and snorkelling over the very accessible reef is like entering another world.

Another option you could consider for your honeymoon is Petit St Vincent, a privately owned island consisting of 22 stone cabins strategically placed on this one kilometre island to enjoy the utmost privacy in superb luxury with spectacular views. It's about 30 miles from Grenada - and very accessible - they'll pick you up by private launch from either Union Island or Petite Martinique. It's like stepping into a James Bond movie!!

Take a look at their website - can't imagine a more perfect honeymoon paradise. www.psvresort.org ( I think)!)
