Switch to adults only resort (Catalonia)?

I have booked a room at the Iberostar Dominicana for my vacation with my BF this December. While I am pretty happy with my choice, I am a bit concerned that it may end up being a bit rowdy with all of the activity going on - we are definitely looking to relax on this trip. I originally looked at the Ambar, but thought it might be a bit stuffy for us (we are in our early 30s). I ran across the Catalonia Royal, which may suit our needs and is still fairly high ranked. I would end up going about $100 over the original budget that I set (that is total, not per night), but I think it may be worth it as it seems to have a romantic vibe that we would enjoy.

Thoughts?

I too was looking at the Cat Royal. Why did you switch Crittercat? I was looking for a beach less quiet than the Ambar, and Cat Royal looks good for that and then we could visit the Catalonia side for entertainment and small casino. I think SCC might be " too" quiet for us for a week, but looks lovely.

BTW to the OP I have learned over the years just to book an adult only resort, they can be rowdy too, but will get tired eventually, lol, not like a 20 year old that can party 24/7.

I'm with you, tweetybird24. SCC seemed a bit remote to me - we still want nightlife options if we choose to indulge . Plus, it was way out of our budget.

Any info on Catalonia Royal would be great. I am checking the threads now and will probably at least put it on hold since it's at a good price.

lol! Thank you for that insight on the adults only resorts. We do like our sleep. :)

I travel to Cat Royal with my daughter. I'm in my 60's, she's in her 30's. It suits us both. We both enjoy a quiet and relaxing vacation by day with decent food, drinks and service. My daughter enjoys the nightlife which she gets plenty of next door at Cat Bavaro. Both of us get what we want out of a vacation. We both adore the beach. Never felt too crowded and the water is always calm. If you want to take a stroll along a secluded beach you can do that. If you want shopping there are vendors huts a 5 minute walk along the beach past Cat Royal. They have all the same stuff as anywhere in PC that I have seen.

Now that we have experienced adult only resorts it will be difficult to go to one that isn't. This may sound mean but not listening to kids squealing is such a joy.

Hi Margdagio, we booked 2 weeks in February but on the Catalonia Bavaro side. I'm now second guessing whether I should have booked the adult only side. Do you know whether we can upgrade upon arrival and the cost associated? Thanks,

waltra, if there is any way of switching before hand it is better to do so, if that's what you want. February is high season and often fills up. I don't know the upgrade prices but do know they vary according to occupancy rate and the cost is usually higher than booked as a package from home. If you can't change your booking right now you should make inquiries upon arrival. You might be able to switch resorts part way through if not available a check in. On the other hand you might be happy with your original choice. What works for me might be different for you. Lots of folks really enjoy the Cat Bavaro. The grounds are gorgeous and their beach is heavenly.

CRB is definitely romantic and perfect for couples and "honeymooners". The only hesitation I have is the beach/water. I realize this is very subjective, but I don't think the beach and quality of the water is as good as other resorts further along the coast. Granted, no resort is PERFECT, so I think you simply need to determine what your priorities are and review the threads and trip reports, and analyze as many pictures as you can!

Yeah, I have been going back and forth on the beach, but I realize I don't really have anything to compare it to since this is a first trip and I will take some seaweed over boat traffic and crowds any day. I think it's kind of nice that the beach is in its more 'natural' state. :). The resort pretty much checks off everything on my 'must have' list, too, so I have to keep that in mind. I will probably still give it a go.

Thanks for all of the assistance - really helpful!
