Advice please on 2 month self catering Punta Cana 2014?

We are a fully retired active 70 year old well travelled couple who walk a lot. We have just finished a 2 month holiday in Hua Hin Thailand and we have started investigating our next 2 month winter holiday away from the UK next year in the Dominican Republic. Most probably in Punta Cana or any adjacent area. We are not quite sure of the topography of this area as we have only been to the Dominican Republic once before when we stayed at the Jack Tar resort in Puerto Plata in March 2006. We have not fixed the dates yet, but we are flexible from 15 January to 15 March 2014. We are looking for a high quality self catering villa/apartment/condo call it what you like.

We have the following requirements:

- Must be in a quiet area where we will not be disturbed by traffic noise.

- Private pool.

- Close to a nice beach with sun bed availability without having to get there at 6.00 am to stake our claim. This is where we will most likely do a lot of walking, up to 5 or 6 miles per day.

- Close to shops for self catering needs (breakfast/snacks) although we will most likely dine out in the evenings, 90% of the time.

- Close enough to a local town where there other forms of entertainment in the evening, where we do not need car rental to reach it. In other words we do not wish to be isolated.

We have a lovely house in the UK and value quality accommodation at a reasonable price and will look after what we rent as if it was our own. We are looking at paying no more than $2000 (£1350) per month that is of a good size (not cramped for 2 months) for 2 of us and would hope that this price would be negotiable (downwards) as we are considering a 2 month stay.

If anyone has suggestions and wish to contact me privately I do not have a problem with a genuine behind the scenes approach.

Suggestions? Thoughts?

The Cortecito/ los corales area is probably one of the most popular rental areas in Punta Cana, Playa turquesa is worth checking out (www.casamarpuntacana.com/sales-rentals/) to get an idea of prices and the type of thing available.

We're also planning a self-catering vacation with similar needs as yours (but for a shorter time frame). Take a look at Corte Sea - it meets many of your requirements.

i would have recommended the Villas at Tortuga Bay, Arrecife, Los Corales PC and Cap Cana, but the budget would not fit.

the El Cortecito Area mentioned above will be the area to look on.

without a rental car you will be anywhere in the Punta Cana area a bit isolated, but cabbies are available 24/7 and of course the public buslines for shopping at the bigger supermarkets.

Hello Mike

Thanks for your response. You say...

"i would have recommended the Villas at Tortuga Bay, Arrecife, Los Corales PC and Cap Cana, but the budget would not fit."

1. My budget was based on Thailand prices. This is our first stab in this part of the world for a long stay (if you call 2 months long stay) and we were "fishing" to see what was available. To be honest we do not have an overall budget for accommodation, as long as we are not ripped off and we get good value for money. We would be most grateful if you could provide links to rental organisations/sites that would provide us with our needs.

2. Naturally if we do not have a car for 2 months (it would be wasted just parked up for a lot of the time) then we can spend this money on the accommodation and be closer (and not be isolated as you say) to everything (including beaches) that we might need, such as shops restaurants, and the like. Does this make sense?

I would check Stanza Mare condos. What you would like is a waterfront condo, just few steps from the beach, wonderful pool, near good restaurants, grocery, pharmacy etc. I would say the budget is a little bit tight.

Here is a quick link to homeaway waterfront condos.

10. Re: Advice please on 2 month self catering Punta Cana 2014?

good listing from Jazz above.

one point in the OP's requirements makes the list very short, the "private pool".

only the Villas at Tortuga Bay, Arrecife, Los Corales(all located on the only private Beach in PC, top security, unlimited beachmiles to walk on a supercalm white powder sandy beach, they also offer their villas with your private pool, usuaally you even have Oceanview from your private pool) and most Villas at Cap Cana. all located on very large properties, so a own Golf Cart is what most guests use for the trnsportation within the very large properties of Cap Cana and Punta Cana Villas.

the rentals in the Cortecito Area are very nice, you can come around for grocery shopping and/or off site restaurant by feet and /or public bus, but very most do not offer a private pool just for you, most provide a community pool for their property, so it depends how important a private pool is for the visitor.
