We're planning to stay in a condo (Santa Maria del Mar) for a month, starting in March. However, we just found out this weekend that one of my sons (7 years old) is diabetic. Every doctor and specialist we see keep telling us we shouldn't change our plans and it will be fine to go. However, I'm nervous. Are there drug stores somewhere around our condo that might sell diabetic supplies? We'll bring plenty, but being gone for a month, I want to plan for emergencies. Would the local hospitals be able to care for him adequately if we needed to visit one? Hopefully things would go smoothly, but I need to think about the worst case scenario.

Absolutely the hospitals will take care of him as well as in US. This is from personal experience. I will say that I cannot blame you for being nervous since he has been so recently diagnosed.

As long as you are comfortable and knowledgeable of what to expect, you should have a great vacation.

Just know what to expect and what you'll need. The D.R. has many many diabetics and thus supplies.

Thanks so much for the reassurance!

Here's another question - now that I'm getting used to counting carbs, do you know if the DR labels are done in grams of carbs, like in the U.S.? Or a different unit of measure?
