Help need for one confused traveler...

My wife and I are planning a trip to Punta Cana and I have been searching for weeks trying to find the right hotel. Basically what we would like is a beautiful hotel and beach with calm waters. We are leaning towards an all-inclusive but would like a little better food and drinks than the average buffet. Could you please recommend a few hotels that might fit what we are looking for? Thanks.

I would suggest the Iberostar Bavaro. I thought the food was good, large selection, the beach is beautiful, clam and clean. And the resort is very well kept.

Could you give me a list of 3 or so that I should check out?

I'd look into the Sivory. That is where we are going in July. They have an all-inclusive plan that you can buy in addition to the room rate. It includes all food, water sports, and premium liquors. I'm hoping that it will be perfect for our first getaway since our first child was born four years ago!

Here is a way to help you decide what works best for you. Go to tntvacations.com and see what resorts are available for the dates you would like to go and how much it is going to cost. You can get it quoted with or with out air. Then come back to Trip Advisor and check out the reviews. Once you have it down to your top three, post another question if you still need answers.

Applevacations.com is another, gwvvacations, and sunburstvacations.

Paradisus Palma Real is pure paradise. Look at the pictures on the TA site and you will be amazed.

Millions of palm trees and mangroves and situated among lush tropical gardens, this oceanfront resort sits on the white sands of Bávaro Beach. Amenities at this all-inclusive resort include three outdoor swimming pools, including a 3,493-square-meter (37,600-square-foot) beachfront freeform pool and two children's pools, as well as seven spa tubs. Guests can relax and rejuvenate in a 799-square-meter (8,600-square-foot) spa and health club (surcharges) or try their luck at the casino’s poker and blackjack tables and slot machines (surcharges).

The Paradisus Palma Real ’has 554 air-conditioned guestrooms decorated in neutral beige and white with orange accents and equipped with mahogany-accented furniture and reading lights. All rooms have balconies or terraces with garden or ocean views, living-room areas with sofa beds, minibars, flat-screen TVs, CD players, alarm clocks, irons and ironing boards, jetted tubs for two, and spa jet-showers.

The property is absouatly gerogeous.... It is a must see on my list.

Stick to the resorts on Bavaro Beach for the prettiest beach and calm water.

Iberostar chains are a very good choice (been to POP Costa Dorado but haven't yet stayed myself at the PC ones).

We stayed at the Carabela and loved the ala cartes, gourmet restaurant esp. excellent with wonderful Carribbean Lobster for $20 USD (request the special menu). The beach was rather shady due to lots of pine trees was the only thing we didn't care for as we wanted to tan all afternoon.

Activity staff was awesome! And the drinks were amazing; not the slushy machine pre-mixed kind; they made them up fresh in a blender and used top shelf liquor if you wanted it for no addtional cost.

Cappuccinos in the lobby bar a wonderful treat after dinner!!

We also loved the beautiful grounds; peacocks and flamingoes, fish ponds. Gorgeous!

Smaller property so you could walk all over and never far to go from beach to room, pool, restaurants.

Have fun choosing!!

Ok I looked on tntvacations and expedia and came up with a few hotels. I think I will rule out Palma Real just because of cost.

Can I get some opinions on beach, water, rooms and all-inclusive aspects of these hotels: Most important will be rooms and beach. Feel free to add others.

Gran Bahia

Majestic

Iberostar Bavaro

My husband and I got married at the Iberostar Bavaro last year and we loved this resort. The beach is incredible. Bavaro beach is the best in the DR. Make sure the resort you choose is on Bavaro. The sand is like powder and it never gets hot (in Maine it will burn your feet). The water is calm and warm and the most beautiful blue. They have a net all around the swiming area so you don't have to worry about jelly fish or other sea creatures. There is a nice little beach bar, pick a lounger with a papala (cause you will want some shade) right beside it and just relax. They do not have waiters at the beach or around the pool so make sure your a short walk to the bar. The bartender kept an eye on us and when he saw we were getting low he would yell out to us 2 Presidente and 2 waters? It was great. They serve food there too, bonus.

The rooms at the Bavaro are all jr. suites. They are plenty large and well maintained. Ours had a king size bed with a ceiling fan over it, a small living room area with two love seats and a coffee table. There is a mini bar, get on the maids good side and they will stock it everyday with water coke and Bohemia Especial (decent beer). They had a carbonated water in there that I diden't like so I told her to keep those and bring more beer and she did.

The drinks are good. They will make them as weak or as strong as you want. They do advertise premium brand liquors but I stuck with whatever they were pouring in there and it was good and I never got a hangover. At home I'm a coors light girl. I love Gray Goose Vodka and Bacardi Rum but to be honest with you I never once thought to ask for top shelf like I do at home.

If you are a wine drinker their wine is a little rough.

I felt we got what we paid for and will be going back to this resort in the future.

I have not been to the other two resorts but I thought the Majestic sounded good too. It has been getting good reviews on TA. And the price is right. I have heard since they are new, don't expect the price to stay this way long.
