Punta Cana is not known for "good" snorkeling, especially directly off the resort's beach area. You may see some fish here and there, but that's about it from the beach.

The aquatic sports huts offer snorkeling trips out to the reef, but even those are not reported as something that would be considered "good" snorkeling. You won't find the same experience you would find at other destinations better known for good snorkeling.

While not a 5 star, but a solid 4 star, the Catalonia Royal has some interesting snorkelling from shore. No pretty corals but there's usually an abundance of marine life to be seen in the clear and shallow waters. Unlike any other hotel in PC, it is safe to snorkel, particularly to the right side of the property, due to lack of boat traffic.

If you have snorkeled in locations like Virgin Islands, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Hawaii, you will be disappointed in the snorkeling in Punta Cana.

Have you considered Dreams La Romana if you are set on the DR?

Large selection of great restaurants (we never had a bad meal there)

and the snorkelling is probably as good as it gets on the island.

Not a 5 star, but a good 4.

Im glad to hear about the catalonia and would say it is a good thing. I quite like being able to get in and out beach / snorkell.

Some of the boat trips don't show you much more. That's why they incorporate sharks and other activities to occupy the time.

the good and by mother Nature Healthy snorkel spots are not frequented by the Mass Guests Tours, they all stay within the reefline on the busy Bavaro Beach stretch where one Resort aside the other with one roped in swimming area aside an other and thousands of guests in the water walking on everything and heavy boat traffick right there, so at that area a "good snorkeling" compared to secluded Areas where Mom Nature can Breath freely, is not available.

Punta Cana offers perfect Locations for top snorkeling, but you would need to organize your Custom Tailed Tour privately to reach the spots.

it is worldwide the same problem for Nature, when 10thousands Guests per week get in and out, then the water/underwater/reef/fishy quality comes very short.

a good example is the Saona Island on the South, naturally a Beauty without much comparison, but today's after a couple decades of banging, it's just overrun beaches with lmost nothing healthy to be spotted in the water.
