Please accept this as my very personal review and not neccesarily the opinions of all those I travelled with:
The hotel was nice, well kept and the rooms were clean and a great size for families.
My only disapointment when it comes to the food was that the juices were not fresh. They were "Tang " like. I was craving 100% juice so much a drank a 2 litre of Oasis Premium Orange Cranberry on my return.
The entertainment needs work... but overall o.k. I think the shows, mini-disco start too late and there is too much down time between the two shows. Some of the animation staff looked like they needed a break of their own.
The pool AWESOME! (Even if a tad cold for my taste) but I swam in it anyways!
The beach beautiful for sunning, strolling and lollygallying similar to Puerto Plata minus the waves. My parents took a sea bath everyday... and found it o.k. enough.
Day trip to Sanoa Fantastic! but it seems that the trip content varies depending on the charter co. you are with. Mine was perfect...Coach bus, speed boat, Fantastic b.b.q, more relaxing, speedboat back, shopping)
Mosquitoes: They love me...Really I could drink deep woods Muskol and they would still be after me... My husband had two bites... I several but only around my ankles. If you are sweet blodded like me... wear long pants and sneakers at night.
Party Central I wouldn't know... I never went to the disco
Casino: Go to have fun and not to win... I hit a triple 7 on the slots and won $1.00... So no big payout
Overall, I think Santana is a nice place for families & seniors and those persons looking for a lazy days holiday with some activities... I think they have a few minor kinks to work out to make it great! I have to say that my massage at the beach was SUPERFANTASTIC and wins hands down over any I've received professionally. ( It may have helped that I tipped her BEFORE the massage!
To those of you going...Don't worry you'll have a great time...
Would I go back?
Probably not...Simply because I am definetely a beach person and the crystal clear turquoise waters we experienced on the sanoa trip was too entrancing to pass on again.
I had a fantastic time, mostly due to the company I kept and the great sunshine that is so good for the soul...
If anyone has any other family friendly sun destinations please share... We are already planning for next year!
