My husband and I went their two years ago and yes, you can definiately change rooms! They put us out in the boonies and we had to take a golf cart there and back to the lobby, we complained and when we got to our room and within two hours we had a great room, close to everything and you could even see the ocean from the terrace. It was a bit of a hassle but definately worth it. Food, service, rooms, grounds, pool were all great, the only downfall was the beach. It was quite dirty, the sand was dark and hard and the water was very murky. We are beach people so we did lay on the beach but we then went to the pool to cool off, not the ocean.

I was there a couple months ago and loved it. I'm sure you'd have no problem changing rooms, depending where your situated. We paid extra to stay in the club hacienda area but it is quite the hike to any of the restaurants and lobby. We paid only $70/pp more for the week which included a private pool and restaurant, better part of the beach, and private check-in and check-out. The beach was okay but it definitely wasn't white sand that I was anticipating (several tour packages showed different colours of sand). Overall it was a beautiful restaurant with great staff, beautiful landscaping, clean rooms, and a great variety in food. Enjoy!

We thought staying in the Club Hacienda area was worth it (see my last reply), however, it is at the very end of one side of the resort. From where we were situated it probably took us ~ 4 minutes to get to the main lobby and restaurants - it wasn't a big deal plus it was good exercise.
