I have just returned to the UK for Christmas. Most of the year I spend my time in Sosua.

Popular Bank is just 5 mins from the Casa Marina, and they have 2 ATM's available. Though I must admit recently we have not had the beauty of both being in operation. Bear in mind that you will be charged by your UK bank for drawing cash, so I would suggest that US$ Travellers Cheques might well be cheaper. You can purchase at many outlets in UK - commission free.

As for walking around in Sosua - Please do mnot listen to all that your couriers in Casa Marina say. The Thomson reps and others, are notorious for frighening visitors to DR, telling them that it is not safe to go outside the hotel - RUBBISH. I travel to DR alone and visit the retaurants and cafes daily. I have NEVER had any problem. I always say - do not risk anything in DR that you would not risk at home.

Should you decide to go on any of the trips, do not book directly with the reps. You will find the same trips offered in Sosua village and at a much cheaper rate than through your tour operator.

Right out the front gate of the Casa Marina iBeach is Mel Tour main office. Mel himself is there about 18 hours a day and has some of the best deals in Sosua. As for safe we have been vacationing in Sosua every year since 1992 and have NEVER had any problems. Have fun.
