What's with the ROACHES at the Paradisus Palma Real |
|
I have been watching the reviews on the PPR very closely over the last few weeks. I'm at the point of no return now - the entire trip is paid for. Most everything looks fine to us (my husband and I) we are in desperate need of adult time away from our kids - LOVE parenting but man is it demanding. I have two concerns from what I've been reading. The first one is the talk of roaches in the rooms. I have read three reviews now that mention them. Tell me it's not true. We could of went to the DR much cheaper but wanted to avoid this kind of thing. The second concern are the reviews that say the place is boring. I'm not much for just sitting. Is it safe to walk off the resort or is that a bad idea? I enjoy taking lots of pictures. Will I be able to stay busy with that? Any advice would be much appreciated. |

mitchie, We recently stayed at the PPR (Oct 15 -21). When I read the recent reviews I feel like I stayed at a different resort. We did have Royal Service but I can't imagine it could make that much of a difference. I have to admit that I did find a roach in our room one day, it was just inside the door and I really didn't think much of it, I figured it just snuck in when the door was opened. Never say another the entire week. We were looking for an adult get-a-way and that is exactly what we had. There was plenty to do if you wanted but we enjoyed relaxing on the beach and by the pool. We walked every day. If you leave the resort and go to the right you can walk for miles. There is a great shopping area about a mile down and while the locals in the shops are a bit pushy I never felt threatened or unsafe in anyway. The place (PPR and the island in general) is absolutely beautiful and if you are into it I think you could spend hours taking pictures. My camera is not high tech and the night pictures came out horrible which is a shame because the place is beautiful at night all lit up.

Hi! Oh boy mitchie, I would not stress over it! The little critters are everywhere so to expect them not be be here and there on an island is unrealistic. If you can, email the resort and request a second level room (if possible) and try not to think about it. Have a fun time! I never understand how folks can be bored while on a vacation in the Caribbean??? Nakkie

Thanks for your replys. I feel better already. I believed that most of the bad reviews were from people who were used to staying in higher class resorts than I normally do. I generally like to stay busy so my latest vacations have been spent in B&Bs and camping while I run around sightseeing. This is my first try at a relaxing vacation in over 10 years so the thought of large bugs getting into my things and sitting around being bored had me a little concerned. Thanks for your reassurance. If anyone went on any day trips that might suit, I'd love to hear about them. I'm into hiking and photography.
