My son was in D.R. in Aug/07 and brought us back Cafe Monte Real Beans in a 1 Lb Bag. The bag is brown and has a Gold Rim Red strip in the middle towards athe bottom of the bag. This coffee is AMAZING!! It smells almost like chocolate and is so YUMMY! I have searched the 'Net for months trying to see how I can buy it. I found a telephone # on the coffee bag (809-575-1512) but am not sure if it's one of those Carribean "scam" numbers that charge $25.00/minute. The bag also says the Coffee is manufactured by J. Paiewonsky e Hijos, C. por A. Anyone have any ideas how I can buy these bags of coffee beans?

Thanks!

Moira

This coffee is by far the most amazing coffee I have EVER had!!

My wife's boss brought me back a bag, and I have yet to find anything with that kind of beautiful chocolate flavour!!

Did you receive any info?? I almost think it's worth taking a chance with the phone #!!!

Jesse

Hi Jesse:

I've had no luck at all. I did call the telephone # and got a spanish recording (I don't speak Spanish!). Any way, what I did find out was that Jose Paiewonsky is a distribution company in D.R. They export Coffee, Cigars, Honey, etc. I found 2 e-mail addresses on the Net and neither are valid. I don't have access to a fax machine, but also got a number there too (809) 575-8553. There doesn't appear to be anyone in North America that distributes or retails this coffee. Do you know where your wife picked it up? Perhaps we could locate a Grocery Store in D.R. that we could get it from.

Thanks !

Moira

My son brought me back 8 lbs of beans in July, so we're good for a while.

Would like to have a source to order beans from in North America.

Thanks!

Moira

Not easy... I was there for 2 years and had the chance to be able to take 50lbs with me upon return to Canada. The coffee beans are grilled with cocoa, so you get this chocolaty smell and flavour...

Phone number is not a scam, but when I tried it in 2004 (they don't change their bags very often, so it might still be the same number than then), it did not work.

José Paewonsky y hijos exports fruits to Canada, but no coffee... sorry... I am really sorry believe me!

You might want to trace call the Dominican Embassy in Canada, or the closest Dominican Consulate from you (Toronto or in U.S.A?) to ask the question... calling Paéwonsky in Santiago (Dominican Republic) will not assure you that you will get anyone who speaks English...

In my time there, Supermercado Bravo's home brew was Montereal packed in Bravo's bags (I know becaus Paewons'ky ran out of the bags you described and informed me that some of the bags would be different... I did not care because I was interrested in the coffee, not the bags!)

I am in Chile right now, with only instant coffee sold in grocery stores and trying to get a friend of mine to bring it from DR on next visit to Chile...

Hi VstevieV:

I had seen the link before. My son was able to get me a full pound (16 oz) of beans for approx. $5.00 Canadian, so $3.50 for 3 oz isn't all that great. I will do as you recommended and contact the D.R. Consulat here in Canada. Thanks for the great tio!

Moira,

Even CAD$5 is rather expensive. usually, it should be more than 3.50/pound... The only way I got the actual beans (not "molido") was by stopping by the factory in Santiagoé; where did your son get the bagged beans from?
