Cameleon Villas Jibacoa |
|
This hotel has apparently been recently been renovated. Has anyone stayed there in the last few weeks? Also I'm told it is adjacent to the Breezes Jibacoa so perhaps guests from that hotel may be able to shed some light on the Cameleon Villas. Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

I would also love to hear anything anyone has to say about this resort!!

I just got back from Breezes Jibacoa on the 30th, so here's what I know about Cameleon. First of all, the location is great. This was my first time to Cuba, so from what I've heard, Varedero, in comparison, is just hotel after hotel. Jibacoa is much more secluded with just the two resorts nestled between some cliffs and the beach. The beach doesn't have the best sand, but the snorkeling is amazing. It's a public beach so it's not restricted to Breezes or Cameleon guests. When we first got there we weren't sure what the deal was with Cameleon. It looked like there was only a dozen or so guests. It looked nice, with a lot of small bungalows with what looked like three rooms per building. It also looked like it was undergoing some repairs - they were replacing the grass roof on one building. However, it looked very quiet in general. By the end of the week, many more people were visible on their stretch of the beach - I'd guess closer to 75 people. Later on in the week, I went on a day trip to Havana that included some guests from Cameleon. I didn't talk to them directly about it, but overhead one guy saying he had no complaints. He mentioned that since it was just opening up, guests were pretty much given free reign. So, to sum it up, until we hear from an actual guest, I think there's a little bit of risk going there. The Jibacoa area in general is great - great beach, great hiking & wildlife, and it's only an hour away from Havana. If the price is a lot better than Breezes, I would maybe give it a shot. Otherwise, go with Breezes.

I agree with thomjones. I just got back from Breezes Jibacoa yesterday, and there wasn't much activity from Cameleon. I think they have pedal boats because I saw a few out at times (and I don't think Breezes has them). Saw some folks on the beach but didn't speak to anyone.

i got back a week ago. i loved it. i was there for 2 weeks. i heard the food is better than breezes. the entertainment staff is amazing, if you see them, erik, diana, santiago and luicito, tell them ana says hi. tehy play the same club songs to get everyone to dance. they are all amazing people. i liked that the resort was pretty small, so everyone became very close and friendly. the rooms are really clean. everything is how i expected it. the bartenders by the pool are great, especially rudi and tony. theyre my favorite. i hope u have a blast. i did. make sure u tell them "ana says hi" they know who i am.

Glad to hear that you liked it. We are going in March. Did you go on any tours ie --into Varadero, Havana, or any of the little villages there? Where did you exchange your money and what is the rate?We like to snorkel and feel more comfortable with safety belts. Did you use them or notice if they had a good supply for snorkeling ot water sports.?Any info is greatly appreciated. Sis you go to the Tropicana show?

My wife and I were at the Cameleon From Jan 16 to 30/06.It was fine, very spacious and well kept grounds, friendly staff, good food and draft beer.We also lucked out in the location of our room. The only negative was the weather,Windy and cloudly for most of our stay. The morning of our last day was really calm and going out on one of the paddle boats let us see the potential for snorkeling and enjoying the deeper water around the reefs. There were also alot of jelly fish through our stay, the wind seemed to blow them in.I don't think that January is the best time to go to the north coast of Cuba. Some misc. things . There are 110 volt outlets,in the rooms.Cash your travelers cheques at airport. There is no where in Jibacoa.Hotel will change Canadian bills and the store accepts credit cards. The Train trip to Hersey was worth the 15 pesos. Also Havana is definely worth a look,we hired a van and driver rather than take the bus tour. There's so much to see in Havana that staying there for a few days would be neat. One last thing every one wanted our travel mugs. They seem to appreciate anything ones gives them, but travel mugs were really hot.

Hi 97escort Glad to hear that you enjoyed the Cameleon. We are going in less than two weeks (13 sleeps!!) Quick question.... You said that there are 110 volt outlets in the room but were the plugs the same kind as ours in Canada? I want to be able to recharge the batteries for the digital camera. Thanks. Did you have a mini fridge in the room? Is there an a al carte restaurant? Did you try it?? Thanks for your information. Nimnee
