I was trying to post this on the same thread I started on hurricane Ike aftermath but it looks like such thread is not opened for new posts anymore.
It has been hard trying to keep up with things as I have had to work personally on some recovering activities in my community plus things I had to do at the homes of my direct love ones.
Unfortunately info of direct interests for travelers is hard to collect as there is not a comprehensive report anywhere. I will try to summarize a couple of things in this thread in random choice:
- NO Hotel suffered any damages within Havana perimeter and they are all fully functional.
- Power has been restored to 95% of the City and it would be fully recovered sooner than later.
- All tourists services are working in Havana
- No Hotels and/or tourists services were impacted in Varadero. The entire site is fully functional, including its Airport.
- Hotels in Vinales area (Pinar del Rio province) did suffer structural damages and reservations have been cancelled. They are working hard trying to make them functional by November (or before).
- Isle of Youth tourists services are still unavailable.
- All local interprovincial Buses (known as Astro Buses) are working on their schedules.
- Viazul Buses are working on schedules.
- Hotels in Bay of Pig did suffer although Playa Giron Hotel has been re-opened still Guama and Playa Larga are closed. Rest of activities within the area (re: diving, bird watching, snorkeling, Hatiguanico river tours, restaurants, etc) are back fully.
- Trinidad is back to normal and roads that were flooded and damaged initially have been repaired already making traffic to/from this area to work on schedules. There are absolutely no power issues there.
Some of the bridges built along the causeway to Cayo Coco did suffered damages. Recovering works are intense and will be fully functional within the next week.
- Holguin area did suffer and only Sol Rio de Mares resort is currently accepting reservations so far.
- Santiago de Cuba tourist’s services are fully functional.
- Still many services not working properly in Camaguey and Ciego de Avila.
- Cuba’s 5 national coverage TV channels are fully back broadcasting their daily programs.
- Radio stations are back
- Phone connections are in about 70% fully recovered nationwide.
