After doing a tour of the island, we are going to be dropped off at a beach. We would like one that is good for swimming, sunning and snorkeling, that also has chair and umbrella rental, and also food and restrooms. We are beginner snorkelers, so won't be swimming far from shore, but we do have our own masks and vests(no finns). What would be a good beach for us, not to far from the cruise port?

You can consider either Pebbles Beach (walk 5 minutes to food outlets), Carlisle Bay (walk 7 minutes to food outlets) or Rockley Beach (everything at your disposal on the beach).

Pebbles and Carlisle Bay are 10 minutes drive from the Bridgetown Port. Rockley is a 15 minute drive.

Hope this helps

Regards

There will be more of interest to see snorkelling in Carlisle bay, wrecks are shallow and not far out some of them only 3 mtrs down to the top of the wreck, the snorkelling trips bring in the turtles and the wrecks are home to lots of fish

Rockly, there will be fish around the breakwater but not in my opinion as many or as varied as carlisle bay, however it does have the cheffette which is always a big pull for me personally

I would invest in some fins even if they aren't expensive they can make snorkelling easier and more enjoyable

Wherever you go have a great time

You could also consider Paynes - 10 - 15 mins from cruise port ...it has the big advantage that you are almost guaranteed a swim with the turtles for free

The are easy to find ....just look out for the charter boats and cats ( which feed them) abut 75 -100 yds from the shore to wards the northern end

More than once I have picked up a lone turtle or two and swum with them without getting involved with the 'crowd'

I am assuming you are on a cruise so you could always pick a cheap set of fins at one of your stops but they are not (IMHO ) essential ...you already have the most important item (IMO ) the floatation vests which makes swimming and in particular treading water so much easier and less tiring

The wrecks at Carlisle are OK for fish but they are much further out than the turtles and at certain times the tides there can be fairly strong to swim against

Have a great time wherever you go
