Hotel for the Family - Christmas

Going to Bermuda between Dec. 24 and Jan 1 with the family (kids all grown - no children). Any hotel ideas? Looking for best bang for the buck. Any other suggestions for things to do at that time? Thank you!!

You are aware that Bermuda is located approx. 650 miles east of the Carolina coast.....and isn't anywhere near the warmer Caribbean ??..has a SEMI-tropical climate ??...and may not be the best destination at Christmas / New Year for a typical '..island / beach..' sort of vacation, right ?? Check out the Climate Averages for December / January for an idea of Air & Ocean Water Temperatures to expect--

http://www.weather.bm/data/climatology.html

Bermuda's climate at this season of the year is usually grand for golf, tennis, and general touring...but not necessarily '..beach weather..'...though heated pools are usually okay.

Bearing this all in mind, and the varying personal preferences, priorities, interests, etc of the members of your family group, you should probably be looking at the larger, full-service hotels and resorts (pools, spas, restaurants, activities, etc)--FAIRMONT HAMILTON PRINCESS; FAIRMONT SOUTHAMPTON HOTEL; ELBOW BEACH HOTEL; GROTTO BAY BEACH RESORT. A few smaller hotels might also serve--COCO BEACH RESORT, SURFSIDE, HARMONY CLUB, GRAPE BAY BEACH or perhaps ROSEDON or ROYAL PALMS. There's one other often overlooked small hotel (some people are a bit put-off by it's 'faith-based' reputation)--WILLOWBANK HOTEL & RESORT...but the downside to this place is a relatively remote and somewhat inconvenient location. But i f "..bang for the buck.." is a high priority, then GROTTO BAY RESORT tends to offers the best priced, off-season '..packages..'.

Thank you for the response. Any other ideas would be very helpful. Again, we're going between Christmas and New Year's. We would love to stay somewhere with a nice pool and pool area. Tennis courts would also be very nice. Some other info that would be helpful:

-Good tour information

-Good shopping

-Good restaurants

-Any events for Christmas and/or New Year's

-Any other ideas of things to do, places to see, etc.

I have read many posts and the information has been very helpful. Any contributions to this thread would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Given your criteria, I'd be inclined to recommend the ELBOW BEACH HOTEL, which is situated on the long wide strand of Elbow Beach for walking along the ocean and sunning on warm days, has excellent tennis facilities, a couple of good restaurants (open off-season) on-premises, DEEP nightclub for dancing in the evenings and is only 10 minutes from downtown Hamilton either by bus, motorsccoter or taxi for shopping, other good dining options and nightlife.

Another alternative is GROTTO BAY...if '..bang for the buck..' is your primary criteria....but GB will be a bit less conveniently situated (except perhaps to the airport).

Hi!

A group of us went to Bermuda for NYE last year and we had a fantastic time!

We choose to stay at Grotto Bay because we wanted to be close to St.George for NYE. They have a fantastic street party with 3 bands, they drop the Bermuda Onion at Midnight and have fireworks at Mn TOO! it was a great evening, good weather. they have food and souvineers and the restaurants are open too all evening!

a lot of the hotels have gala events but we choose to go casual and had a great dinner at the Swizzle inn before we went to st. george.

our hotel had a great party and the dining room wsa decorated to the hilt! they also had a NY day brunch but we missed it because we slept in!

if you want a smaller hotel try the Reefs or Pompano. they both have great holiday parties!

have fun planning and if i can answer any more questions please just ask!

Bonnie
