Just returned from Cambridge Beaches |

All in all- a very nice place. We opted for a standard room- bermuda is already very expensive and didn't need to over-splurge. The room was very comfortable but not special in anyway. I think deluxe rooms are the way to go- and you should specify on the ocean side. Food was quite good- but as a new yorker- it is tough to be dazzled with food on vacation in bermuda. Tamarisk dining room had very good food and great dessert, better than breezes- but eating dinner on the beach at breezes was amazing. Had dinner at the Reefs one night and thought that food was almost as good as tamarisk. Went snorkeling around CB and at Church Bay. Church Bay was a bit better. Best spots we found (and were recommended by a local) were really the nooks just north of the breezes beach- we found fewer fish towards the turtle bay side- but that is a very nice beach. The pool is still being constructed a bit (it is only open in the afternoon and there is occaisional drilling and such) however, I am much happier at a beach so it didn't matter at all. We would definitely return to CB- probably not 300 times since there are other places to visit in this world- but really don't think we could find a better few day relaxing place on the island. I will hang around the next few days if anyone has specific questions- you guys were very helpful to me! CHICO Report as inappropriate |

Thanks for the info! Was the meal plan worth it or is it a better idea to eat in town and other places? Also, I was looking at a romance package that included in room breakfast...is there another place to have breakfast? If you have any photos to post I would love to see them! thanks again! ps: I'm a New Yorker too...we are tough customers when it comes to food! Report as inappropriate

hi misterchico. Thanks for posting. I leave for CB next week. How was the weather--do you need a sweater for evening or pants? What did you do that was the most special? Did you take any trips/cruises/ activities at the CB? Also how does the dine around work? I wanted to get in at the reefs one night but CB says i can't make the plan til I get there. Will I be able to get in? How much did it cost to get to the Reefs? Did you explore on moped at all? Is that how you got to turtle bay etc? We love to snorkel and i'm hoping we can kayak and find places to snorkel but i'm also thinking we should spend one day or part of a day exploring the island..... Thanks for all info you can write about!! :) dana Report as inappropriate

Danaroo, the weather is very warm at this time of yr..I was there last year at the end of june, and did not get chilly once..Not even at night...You have to do the dine around when you get to CB..Tell them you what day you want a reservation for the Reefs, and they will set it up for you, and even have the cab pick you up at your room Report as inappropriate

Teresa, do the MAP plan it , the food is great, and it will get to expensive to keep taking cabs to different restaurants...With the MAP plan you can dine around where you can eat at Reefs, and Pompano..You would need to make the reservations once you get there Report as inappropriate

BermudaObsessed is right on all accounts...but some more details: The weather is quite warm but it does get breezy at night, so I think a light sweater or cover-up or two would be a good call. We were there from noon on friday 'til 2pm on monday so we didn't rent scooters or have a chance to check out the island that much. We went to church bay to snorkel- that was about an $18 cab ride there and a $2.50x2 bus ride back (we wanted to get there fast!) Cabs are expensive, but what can you do? I would recommend Church Bay for snorkeling, it is nice to the left of the beach (beach left) and if you swim all the way out to the rocks, that is where we found the most fish. Try to go at high tide so you can actually get inside the reef out by the rocks. I saw a few barracudas just about 40 yards off shore- so look for them there- center and beach right. We found the best snorkeling at CB to be at the point to the right of the main/breezes beach. Follwing the rocks out there you can find some nice nooks. It is also supposed to be good to the right of turtle beach as well but I didn't find much and a local "expert" told me I was best off of the main beach. This guy also downplayed the snorkeling by the wreck out at Daniel's Head. Supposedly it is very touristy and that there are tons of fish because everyone brings bread to feed them..... (However, we did feed the pet turtles outside of the dining room- they are probably still full from the bread!) We just were not there long enough to take any cruises, etc... and we were going to rent a sail boat one afternoon but the weather wasn't cooperating- sprinkles and no wind. If we were there for longer we would have taken a morning in Hamilton via the CB ferry. And if we had another day and had already gone sailing we would have rented a moped. Dining- dine-around works if you are on the MAP. You just tell them when you check in that you want to be in the Dinearound program and when/where you want to eat and they confirm with you day of. I think it works in the favor of CB since most people want to eat there. MAP is a good deal since even dinner at the breezes can run over $100/2 However, you are either on it or not- so if you are there for a week it may get tiring. But since CB is a little remote, and cabs are pricey ($50 RT to the Reefs which is not that far away) I think you are better on it. They can deliver breakfast to your room for $10....if not it is a mediocre buffet in the Tamarisk room. But once again- it is bermuda not the Ritz Carlton Naples..... The dinner and outside seating at Tamarisk is very good. The food at breezes is a step down but the tables on the beach are really wonderful. It was nice to go to the Reefs for dinner- and nice to check it out (I am a curious one) the food was on par with CB- probably a little worse. But again- I am a new yorker and the only things that I found outstanding to eat all trip were the musrooms w/ truffle app on brioche, souffle and passion fruit sorbet at Tamarisk. Please let me know how else I can help! chico Report as inappropriate

Chico Thanks that's very helpful info. I can't wait to go. Just found out my room overlooks mangrove bay and is Lower Flamingo. Any idea if that's a nice one? We are going to be there Tues afternoon until Sat noon so not sure how much we will do either but i think hamilton and we are doing a dive. We are also doing the beach dinner for my hubby's birthday. of course this all assumes the weather is ok!!!!!! Thanks dana Report as inappropriate

Hi Dana, Let me tell you about our joyful afternoon, we rented a 17 foot motor boat with bimini from Windjammer Sports right next to CB. Split with another couple it was $70. for the first hour and $20. each hour there after which included gas. We went out around mangrove bay and east towards Daniel Head Island, snorked there and around the Vixen. The best was taking our cooler picnic and wine and goiing further east towards Ely's Harbour (past Willow bank) to the Bermuda Trust Property called "Palm Isle" WOW!!!! Our own private little island. Great relaxing picnic on a pretty little palm fringed beach!!! WOW!!!! one of our favorite times in Bermuda! Report as inappropriate

that sounds fabulous!! Is it far? Could we kayak there? Where did you get the cooler--can we get that at CB? Did you have to book the boat ahead of time? Great idea--thank you!! Report as inappropriate

Dana, yes I booked the boat ahead of time but did not leave a deposit and confirmed with them upon our arrival in Bermuda. The very helpful young man at the Windjammer Sports Centre (Cambridge NOT Dockyard) name sounded like "Grazie". He assurred me that we would not be committed in case of bad weather or ruff water. He also explained everything from the boat operations, safety and marked us a map showing where to avoid reefs, and about the "Palm Isle". They did provide you with a very small cooler and ice, however we also carried our own collapsable coller and blue ice . I had packed several items for a picnic. and carried them on the plane from Atlanta. I supplemented them with sandwiches that our cottage maid help me prepare. (WE stay at Horizions) Cambridge Beaches may pack a picnic for you, inquire. Go on line to windjammer to check out different boat options. NO It's way to far to kayak, plu you have to go out of Mangrove bay into the Atlantic (Southshore) side and head along the coast line. Can your honey drive/start/anchor a small poer boat? Dana, don't wanna give you T.M.I., sometimes its great to figure out things on your own adventure, however we tend to explore and moped the island from tip to tip. This was our hald dozen trip to Bermuda and one of our best, in other words, you have been there yet, but, you'll go back! Report as inappropriate
