Bermuda Forum: The ultimate towel question....

 The ultimate towel question....

To pack, or not to pack, that is the question?

Whether 'tis wiser to bring ones own, or to rely on the resort vairety?

Whether the Wyndham will allow us to take them to other beaches, or be they for hotel beaches only?

Whether laundry facilities are available to render one's own damp and sandy towels clean?

Your advice is much appreciated as I would prefer not to have something smell rotten in Bermuda....(artistic license?)

And no - its not written in iambic pentameter so don't bother checking!

Thank you!

Leave your towels at home. You'll get all you need at your hotel.

Will the hotel allow me to take them across the island to another beach?

While this answer may be a little off from an ethical standpoint, how will they know if you take them to another beach? I can't imagine that they search you as you leave the premises. Just make sure that you take them back to the hotel.

There really is no need to bring your own beach towels...and really no way that the hotel's laundry service is going to keep track of them either. The resort towels may be taken to other places.

One '..trick..' you might want to avail yourself of is to ask houskeeping if they have an old bed sheet that you can have. A bed sheet makes a great '..beach sheet..' to lay on the sand. It is relatively compact and lightweight, the fine, powdery Bermuda beach sand easily shakes out of it (unlike the pile of a cotton towel) and dries relatively quickly. It also keeps the towels you carry from becoming '..sand paper..' as the day wears on and the sand works its way in. We have an old sheet that we '..borrowed..' from a Hamilton Princess housekeeping cart, 30-odd years ago on our honeymoon that we still take back to Bermuda and has continued to serve the purpose every time we visit.

Before anyone gets into high dudgeon over this petty larceny....a couple of years ago we had occasion to have a drink at the Heritage Court bar one evening with the G.M. of the Princess. We told him about the purloined bed sheet...and how thin it had become from repeated useage over the past few decades. He told us to return it any time we liked and he'd be delighted to have housekeeping replace it with a new one.

I find it usefull to pack quick dry AQUIS towels (18 x 36 inch) in our snorkle bag. We used them on trips to Hawaii, USVI, and BritishVI.

Of course we snag a Hotel towel when neccessary.

But, we always carry a "neat sheet" to use on the beach or for our picnic excursions! available at your local US food store/Targest, ect. We,ve even used our neat sheet to cover our moped & packages when it showered!

Also, carry a collaspable cooler and blue ice sheets.

You gotta get Aquis super absorbent towel by Britanne!!

1-800-4-MORDRY OR www.aquis.com

I PURCHASED OURS AT LINEN AND THINGS.

EASY TO PACK/CARRY, WASH OUT IN THE POOL OR SINK, QUICK TO DRY!!!

We are very aactive and like to adventure to beaches all over the island to picnic , sun, and snorkle! Hope you'll do the same!

ENJOY

Hi there. I had the same question before we went to the Wyndham earlier this month. We brought our own, (as did some others) but as it turned out, did not really need them. There are towels available at the pool which is next to Boat Bay; and also near Dolphin Bay. If you want to go to Cross Bay, which is the furthest on the property, you can take towels from either of these locations. Also, during the quick hotel orientation, the staff member informed us that we could take the pool towels to another beach and just return them when we were done.
