 The Fairmont Southampton

We will be staying here in early April. Has anyone ever stayed here and what is it like? Can you recommend any good restaurants either inside or outside the resort? Thanks!

1. Re: The Fairmont Southampton

Ine of the best dining rooms on Bermuda will be the NEWPORT ROOM, ust off of the main lobby in the Fairmont Southampton Princess (it may also be the most expensive on Bermuda). THE RIB ROOM is supposed to be pretty good---for steaks and ribs. I'm not sure that they still do it but the Waterlot Inn down behind the hotel, at the bottom of the serpentine back drive, used to do a wonderful Sunday Brunch. Other than these, the rest of the dining options at either of the Princess hotels are write-offs and can easily be skipped for room service. Just down the road will be The REEFS Hotel, which has GRILL56, OCEAN ECHO TERRACE (and perhaps COCONUTS will have openned for the season-- http://www.thereefs.com/reefs/dining.html --ALL of which number among the best dining rooms on Bermuda. There is also HENRY VIII-- http://www.bermuda.com/henrys/index.htm --down the road which has both a good formal dining room and good food in the informal pub area. Heading back toward Hamilton on the South Rd, is TIO PEPE'S, which has very good pizza (but that's about it). We haven't eaten at the new restaurant at the newly refurbished and remodelled Wyndham Bermuda Resort (between the SHP & Reefs) but heard a couple of iffy reviews about its restaurant last summer...but since the resort was newly re-openned, it would be unfair to make judgements based on so short an experience, by so few diners--approach with caution. If I were to recommend one, it would be ANY of the dining rooms at The REEFS...and it would also provide you with an opportunity to stop into and see what is certainly one of the very best hotels on Bermuda----to begin planning your NEXT, longer visit.
