Just back from honeymoon at The Reefs.....WE LOVED IT!

We just returned from our one-week honeymoon last night at the Reefs....and absolutely fell in love with it. I will write a much more detailed review of our stay at The Reefs in a few more days, but wanted to write a brief message. I now understand why so many visitors are repeaters. There is just a special magic about the place.....we were sorry to see our taxi pull out of the drive to take us back to the airport.

We both knew in the first 48 hours that we would definitely be returningd to the beautiful island of Bermuda, and to the Reefs.

To Bermuda Obsessed.....I totally understand your screen name now. Gorgeous, clean island, friendly people,......the list goes on.

Daffy.....I know you will love your stay at The Reefs.

I will also post a more thourough trip report on the forum, with some tips/thoughts, etc.

Thanks for the warm wishes Poppa.....

I know you are a Reefs Regular (5 times, right)?? We actually shared a taxi ride on our dinner ride to Cambridge Beaches with a young couple from NJ.....this recent visit was their 6th. There IS definitely a magic feeling start to get about the place....for us it was within the first 48 hrs.

I plan on trying to get in gear to write my review w/pics sometime this weekend.

Just curious,,,,,we picked up a brochure at the front desk on Nisbet our last day there....it looks like a nice place......and I'm sure it is as well-run as The Reefs. We had a nice chat with Jennifer (Mr. Dodwell's assistant) one night, and she actually took a very nice picture of us at the waterfall close to The Reefs entrance. She stated that they are getting many favorable reviews from Nisbet.....

Is there much to do on Nevis/St. Kitts?? The reason I ask, is because both hubby and myself are "do-ers" while on vacation. We like to take maybe one day to lay around, relax, and read on the beach.....but then we pretty much love to stay busy. Snorkel on our own, go on excursions, sightsee, shop.....etc. I guess what I am rambling to try and ask, is would there be enough to keep active travelers busy, and not become bored???

Thanks again,

Deb

Yes Deb, you are right - 5 times and soon to be 6 next year.

Nisbet is extremely well run, it's almost like being at The Reefs in the Caribbean.

The property is well kept, accommodations exquisite and food 2nd to none.

The only negative is the water, some excess seaweed etc. The Reefs has it beat hands down, don't get me wrong it's not bad, just not like The Reefs, I guess I'm spoiled.

The claim to fame about Nevis is that is what the Caribbean was like 50 years ago.

Not a lot of built up areas, a bit of shopping and some different restaurants in Charleston, the capitol.

We did a tour of the island, a must.

We're a bit opposite of you, spent most (all) of our time on the beach reading.

Our villa mates went to St. Croix, they said it was neat, they went deep-sea fishing and did some snorkeling at different beaches.

So, there are different things to do, GOOGLE in Nevis and get more information on activities.

It definitely is a nice place and worth a visit.

Deb - Sorry (hit post a little too soon). Anyway, Poppa's right about the differences and similarities between The Reefs and Nisbet. They are both great places.

As far as having things to do in Nevis - I was surprised.

After reading so many reviews about how quiet and relaxing Nevis was I was ready to just veg out. I went with my two teenage daughters and they kept me going the entire time.

An Island tour takes full day. Plan on climbing Mount Nevis - at least part way and look for the elusive Nevis monkeys along the way. Windsurfing. Botanical Gardens. Snorkel trails. Catamaran outing and horseback riding and one round of golf.

So much for vegging. I really was tired by the end of the vacation, but wouldn't have done anything different. My daughters had a blast and so did I.

There's plenty to do at Nisbet and on Nevis - but it's all nature based. No casinos or trendy bars. They use to have a water park (about as man-made as it gets) but I think that closed. Like Poopa says... it's like the Caribbean 50 years ago.

Nisbet is really nice though they do have air conditioning and WI-FI, so it's not completely like it was 50 years ago.

I'd go back in a heartbeat!

COngrats on selecting The Reefs for your honeymoon. Look forward to seeing your photos when you post your review.

Poppa and WillB....

Thank you both for your informative replies. It seems like you both enjoyed Nevis very much.....and that you can make it the kind of vacation you want.....either relaxing or active.

I was curious WillB....about the snorkel trails? What are they? We love to snorkel, but I had read somewhere that Nevis/St. Kitts does not have that great of snorkeling? Was it as good as Bermuda snorkeling, in your opionion?

We actually spent some time yesterday looking at Nevis on TAdvisor.....and looked at the reviews for Nisbet. We liked the way it looked (situated right on the beach) alot better than Montpelier Plantation Inn....their #1 rated resort.

Since we do love snorkeling, we also looked at Belize....have been considering a trip there for some time now.....since it has the 2nd largest Barrier Reef in the World (besides Australia).....

I am planning on writing my review of The Reefs today.....w/pic....but it takes 2-3 day, (I think) to actually post on TA.

Deb, So glad you love Bermuda!!!! and the Reefs!!!! Isnt it a magical place.....I cant wait to go back...We did love our Jamaica trip to Rpyal Plantation, but honestly, we loved Bermuda much more as far as the island goes....Did you like the dinner at Cambridge Beaches? You can see how different both resorts are....I think CB is a little more run down, but I heard they have a new pool now....I may try the reefs or Pompano when we go back to Bermuda..Which probably wont be soon since we just spent a lot to go to Jamaica....But, I still have such an urge to get back...Try to post lots of pictures of the Reefs with your review...Let me know when its up....

Bermuda....

Yes, the dinner at CB was really quite lovely. We actually ate there on our last night in Bermuda. We tried to get in twice before that on the dine-around, but they were booked up. I thought it was a nice ambiance......we sat outside, the 2nd row in from the water. Our waiter took our picture afterward, just as the full moon was coming out. I would definitely go back for dinner.....not impressed with the Pompano, though.....it was loud and noisy, full of groups of people.....not a romantic feel to it, (at least the night we were there). Still.....I know it has a good reputation on the island,or it wouldn't consistently be #1 on TAdvisor.

As for my review, it was completed being written last night.....a warning....IT"S LONG!!!! We sent as many pics as we could (10).....about half of the Reefs, and the remaining ones of different locations on the island.

9. Re: Just back from honeymoon at The Reefs.....WE LOVED IT!

Yes, Im still questionable about Pomapno..Its also #1, but many reviews do talk about the kids...Not sure if I'm in to all those kids when I'm on an expensive vacation....What did you think of the Pompano grounds? Beach? May still want to rey the Reefs , only went to dinner there ....What room did you stay in? Dont think I would like the ones over the pool? I like the one bedroom cottages, but they are across the street....Maybe a junior suite would be the answer over the ocean? The prices are much more reasonable then Cambridge....Can you snorkel right from the beach? Did you? Did you feel you had privacy on the beach? Thanks...

10. Re: Just back from honeymoon at The Reefs.....WE LOVED IT!

We stayed in a Horizon Jr. Suite....(upstairs). it was right over the ocean, and the view was INCREDIBLE. Now....even for a Jr. Suite, the room was not that big really, but we didn't spend a whole lot of time in our room......other than the usual.....sleeping/changing for dinner, etc. We did sit out on our balcony every morning with coffee.....I think only the Pointe Suite (at the outer tip of property) might have had better views, and it comes with a higher price, too.

As far as the cottages, we actually wanted to tour one, but ran out of time. By the way, they are not across the street.....they are on the same side as The Reefs, but just a very short walk down from the main resort. Oleander Cycles is right acoss the street, though.

My husband snorkeled one afternoon ......he enjoyed it but said the water got a little rough.....mornings would be better for snorkeling, I think. The prviacy....hmmm....well, it's probably not as private as CB, but it wasn't overly crowded, either. There never was many people in the water. Most people just sunbathed......read/ordered drinks, etc. Some afternoons were busier than other, too.....

We didn't tour the grounds or anything at Pompano.....just ate our dinner and left, so cannot help you there. Did you read the post, "recently married at The Reefs?" They said that they actually toured Pompano, and were so glad that they had chosen the Reefs.
