Two weeks ago we stayed right around the corner at Salt Kettle Guest House -- walked by Greenbank Cottages daily. Greenbank cottages looked EXTREMELY quiet and well kept-- if that's your thing. It is convenient to the ferry but not to the bus. Renting mopeds would be a big plus if you stayed there. I think the Salt Kettle area is a great place to stay. You get a beautiful view of the Hamilton Harbor. Choose Salt Kettle Guest House if you enjoy more activity like mingling with other guests over a huge English breakfast each morning. Sorry I am biased.

It's been a few years since we stopped into GREENBANK & COTTAGES to check the place out, but we also drove past it in July and agree that it continues to be well maintained and in keeping with the phots that you see of it on it's web site.

Since the property faces directly onto Hamilton Harbour, with it's own little beach area, it has better , unobstrusted views of Hamilton Harbour and the Great Sound than Salt Kettle Guesthouse and will probably catch more breeze on a hot, humid summer day.

The last time we stopped in, Greenbank was owned and managed by the Ashton family...who were very hospitable in showing us the property and a couple of vacant apartments

By and large it's fair to say that what ya; see on their web site is pretty much what ya' get. Greenbank will be a few steps farther from the Salt Kettle ferry dock but those few steps are a very pleasant stroll along the lane. As has been pointed out, there really is no convenient public bus route to Salt Kettle (one look at the serpantine Harbour Road approach will explain why) but during the day and early evening, the ferry service is reasonably frequent. If there is a 'flaw' with this lovely locations, it is that the last ferry from Hamilton runs at 9:30 Mon-thru Saturday and 7::05 PM on Sundays. But the taxi fare around from Hamilton will usually only run $10-12.
