We are traveling to Bermuda next month September. I have been reading everything I can on the site. I'm feeling pretty good about the Coco Reef. No negative comments are posted. Anybody have anything to say good/bad about it before we book it? Thanks

Kath...I stayed there for 5 nights about 2 weeks ago...it was wonderful!! The location can't be beat...the front desk is so friendly and helpful...the food is excellent and the private beach is absolutely perfect..it is peaceful and relaxing...nothing too super-fancy or resort-y..just clean and simple with stunning views and enough amenities to satisfy those who don't necessarily require a gym or spa on premise...book away!

thanks daystar. Did you used the meal plan or did you eat out every night. I hear the meal plan you can use at several other hotels. I hear good things about it but not sure we want to be locked into it. I think we will opt for the breakfast but not sure about the dinner plan. what are you feelings on it?

I also stayed there a month ago and highly reccomend it. Breakfast was included but we didn't do the meal plan. The only "negative" thing is that there are many stray cats around. They're harmless and adorable, but if you hate cats, you might rethink Coco.

kath.....did not do meal plan (other than breakfast, of course...which was super), as hubby and I love to dine out...Hamilton is not far, and it was fun to go into town for dinner and get a little night life....I don't like staying at my hotel all day and night....be warned, though, dinner in Bermuda (anywhere) is expensive..about $140/couple (wine/dessert included) give or take some....tip is usually included, however..don't forget to look on the tab..no reason to tip twice!...as for the cats...I only saw 2 or 3 different ones, and not all that often...in case you were looking into other properties, the Pompano Beach Club looks exquisite and has reviews to match...almost double the price, though, and about twice as far away from Hamilton if you like to go into town..just food for thought! Good Luck! Any other questions, just ask..I pop on here often...

You know what though, Kath...you may be satisfied with the meal plan if you like to dine around at other hotels..John and I did dine at Coconuts at The Reef one night (this hotel part of option, I believe..do not miss this romantic restaurant..the best views on the island!), but the rest of the time we liked to go into town...I don't believe meal plans include Hamilton restaurants..but if town is not your thing, then.....I'm just not sure of all the hotel options for dine around, but I'm sure they are just fine!

Just an idea:

Coco Reef is in the Dine Around program, which includesThe Reefs, Pompano Beach Club, and Cambridge Beaches. It is fun to do the dine-around, and sample the different resorts - both gastrinomically as well as the "feel" of various properties.

This sometimes helps you decide where you want to stay on your NEXT Bermuda trip! All of the properties mentioned have their own individual personalities - but they are lovely and they all have excellent food.

thanks for your responses. The Pompano was another one I was considering but due to the distance away from town and the extra cost I think I have ruled it out although it does sound great. We do like cats so that won't be an issue for us it will probably make us miss our own - thanks though. I guess I will check out the price difference between getting the meal plan and not and seeing if it is worth getting or not. We do enjoy trying new places so we might opt out of it. Thanks for the advise on the Coconuts place, any other good rest. to try in Hamilton I'd love the names of them. Whats the beach like at Coco Reef? Is it rocky or soft sand?

Hi again Kath....

Definitely eat at Coconuts at The Reefs if you want a beautiful and romantic venue....make your reservations a couple weeks prior....it really books up..you will gasp as you walk down the stairs to this beachfront restaurant terrace...try to get there a bit before sunset....really exquisite...

In town, by far the BEST Italian restaurant is Little Venice..from the ambience to the service to the food (my whole family is from Italy..trust me!)..it is like a Manhattan eatery..very cool..we didn't like Tuscany at all...

Hog Penny in town is a fun pub (we went there only for drinks)and Barracuda Grill in town is a modern-retro swanky place with great seafood....

By the way...people talk about the Swizzle Inn a lot..yes, it is a landmark (nearer to the airport though), but it is a really dirty, dark and dingy (less than) pub with pretty awful food and basically a rum swizzle "shot" for $8.00...I'd skip it..the place smelled real funky, too...the rum swizzles at CoCo Reef, however are outstanding (and a full cup!)

The sand at CoCo Reef is spotted with big, beautiful rocks (as are most Bermuda beaches), but the water is crystal clear and smooth to enter...Elbow beach is expansive..a great lounging/walking beach...

Good Luck and have a blast!! You will LOVE Bermuda..I can't wait to go back..please let me know how you liked your trip when you return..I'll be looking for your review..!

Check out my trip report, i mentioned the restaurants we went to.

Also my review of CoCo Reef has photos of the beach areas...there are 2 places to lounge. Try to get an ocean front room, you won't be dissappointed!
