Question for "travelingfromTX" RE: Harmony Club

We are traveling to Bermuda this weekend for 7 days. I read your review (and others) regarding the Harmony Club and I'm a bit concerned. (Heck it was a 3 to 3-1/2 star hotel in almost every guide I looked at including AAA.)

I am going to call the hotel directly before our visit. Is there is a certain part of the hotel I should ask to stay in? (I know the different areas have names but I don't know them.)

I wrote you a long answer under my post "just returned from Bermuda". If I can help further, please ask!

We've (along with several family and friends) had pleasant 10 and 11 day stays at Harmony Club over the past few years and will be returning again with family and friends for another 11 day visit next month (even without the 'all-inclusive' rate plan)...so I guess we've been '..voting..' with our wallets. Based on our pleasant experiences, I can't quite reconcile the '..slams..' versus the raves. The '..truth..' probably lies somewhere in between.

The last time the hotel was completely renovated was a little over ten(10) years ago. But every year they pull several rooms out of the inventory at varoius times for renovations. The past couple of years, this rotation/renovation process has been slowed because of (of all things) the success of the property and a desire/need to get several rooms in the previously un-used SUNRISE building (closes to the South Road) into service. They've been working on the SUNRISE building on and off for 2-3 years now. I know that during our 11 day visit last year, two of the ground-floor-center rooms of the BOUGANVILLEA building were temporarily pulled out of the inventory and re-furbished as part of the on-going process while we were there.

If you look at the HARMONY CLUB web site, the rooms pictured with the more '..contenporary..' decor will be located in the three(3) detached buildings at the western end of the property (around the Putting Green)--BOUGANVILLEA, SUNSET and WILD POPPY. All of the rooms in these buildings are more than amply sized, some rooms with two(2) double beds and some with one(1) king, more than ample room for a sitting area with table and chairs and still have room to dance around on the ceramic tile floors throughout. Ground floor rooms in these buildings will have walk-out patios with Hibuscus covered pergulas. Upper floor rooms do not have corresponding terraaces (but room size is identical). If the more '..comtemporary..' decor is more to your liking then ground floor rooms w/patio in these three buildings will probably be best.

The room pictured with the more '..traditional..' decor will be located in the PAGET MANOR '..L..'wing of the hotel. These rooms have both separate outside entrances with 'porches' as well as interior entrances to the main hotel corridoors. These rooms will have eith two doubles or one king, and usually an upolstered love seat, end and coffee tables. In addition to the 'traditional' decor, they will also have polished cedar-plank floors. Of the Paget Manor rooms # 26, 27, 28 and #33 (this is the room pictured with the recessed arch, exterior entry). The other rooms with lower numbers (from 15-t0-25) are a 'mixed bag'. Rooms# 22 & 23 have walk out terraces, but the rooms are on the back-side of the hotel and look out over the tennis courts (and now on-going condo construction) and are perfectlyadequate but really nothing special. The rest of the lower numbered rooms are adequate by nothing to write about.

I haven't seen any of the newly re-finished rooms in the SUNRISE building (so I can't speak with any personal knowledge of them), but we did speak with a couple of guests who had been assigned rooms in this wing last summer and they were not at all '..happy campers..'...even after a few drinks at the bar.

My review wasn't meant to be a slam or to scare away future guests. I did give it many pluses. KDKsail has much more of bermuda to compare it against--this was my first hotel stay in Bermuda.

I'm just going by what I spent versus what I got.

My review is written honestly, but it's how I saw it. You and KDKSail might have a totally different review when you return.

I honestly didn't form an opinion prior to going, even after reading many negative reviews.

But, I felt I needed to write what I saw last week.

I hope you, iamweasal and KDK have an awesome time.

I do look forward to your opinion--that afterall is what makes the world go around!!!!!!!

And there is absolutely NO question that your experience, observations and opinions are anything other than entirely VALID. That's the strength (and occasionally the weakness) of a forum like this. The '..truth..' of any place probably lies somewhere amongst the '..middle..' of all of the various experiences, observations and opinions of numerous guest experiences.

We had a similar water pressure experience a couple of years ago when there was a break-down of the public water main system that services Harmony Club (and beyond the control of the hotel) Harmony Club has it's own rain-water catchment system and holding tanks but this isn't sufficient to service a full hotel....so they must rely on the public water distribution system. We were lucky. We happenned to be up early that morning and were able to take showers with the lower water pressure and decreasing hot water (it was down to barely a trickle by the time we were through) but many other guests had to use bottled water to brush their teeth later. The hotel, as way of apology, placed bottles of house-brand champagne outside each door. The problem with the water main was corrected quickly and things were back to normal by mid-afternoon....but there were still some guests in the dining room that evening who were still upset by the morning's inconvenience (although, we did meet an older British couple at the bar that evening who thought the experience, "..a fine lark....first time we've ever brushed our teeth with champagne..").
